Come to think of it.. maybe the establishment of a fake monarchy could help us.
I found this an interesting read, perhaps others might also.
A Horrid Crime, a Dishonest Debate - Andrew C. McCarthy - National Review Online
I really liked this particular observation.
"It is as stupid to claim that rhetoric causes violence as it is to claim that normal people can be entrapped into terrorism. What vitriolic thing would someone need to say to you, whether the vitriol could be cast as right-wing or left-wing, that would get you to pick up a gun and start spraying bullets at people with whom you disagreed, however vigorously, about some political or social issue? It wouldnt happen. It couldnt happen."
We became the world's only superpower steering away from European trends. I thought that was the whole idea behind our establishment. Did I take too many history classes before the Marxists took over academia?
How does one even have a political discussion without being acutely aware of how detrimental the income gap in America is and has been?
Please. Those were the dark ages and only happened because FDR got us back on the right path toward Eurotopia, where everyone has right to same outcomes. Don't ever again be fooled into believing that the things that made us different were the catalyst. It was TVA.
agreed. every time i think about bill gates and how much more money he has than I, i get extremely upset. hell next week i might have to shop at trader joes rather than whole foods. might as well jump off a bridge today.
i know nothing motivates me more than knowing no hard i work my lazy brother will make the same amount of money.
but think about the lack of income gap. You just don't understand how the happiness scales work.Funny story or not...
Worked in Germany for 5 years under the German labor laws and payroll. Lived in a small apartment building and the neighbor below was two young kids smooching off unemployment. I come home one day to find out they are off to Ibiza for a week's vacation. How can they afford that, I ask. I am then informed that German government pays for their vacation once a year so that they can get away and relieve the stress of being unemployed.
Had to climb back into my car and head to work the next day. I mean, someone has to pay for the drinks in Ibiza.

i have a friend whose niece is on welfare (they call it something else) in england. when i went to visit she told me she went out to bars every night. i can't even afford to do that. of course she's living at home, but it doesn't sound like that bad of a life to me.

What would the world look like without our economy? When exactly did that happen?
I mean the British put the fourth president on the run and hiding in the woods while the capital burned.
I think some historians point to the defeat of the Confederacy as a huge turning point - the war effort assembled sufficient capital to mobilize our catch-up with Europe....
Others at WWI; still others at the end of WWII.
Nixon said, "We are all Keynesians now."
I'm not exactly sure when we steered away from European trends.
From where I'm sitting, it looks to me like we simply lost the Cold War more slowly than the Russians....
Debt, joblessness, invective, vitriol, ballooning inequality, bigotry, new asymmetric wars, no regard for civil society, no unifying purpose (despite the huge 800lbs gorilla sitting in the atmosphere).....
All this from the richest country ever. Makes me wonder....
