Here’s what we know …
STARKVILLE — The focus is on Memphis.

The NCAA has been scouring the Bluff City in recent weeks (and months), interviewing several people about a local 7-on-7 team. First came the news of Auburn running back Jovon Robinson. On Thursday, Mississippi State defensive back*Will Redmond‘s name popped up in relation to other NCAA interviews in the city.

What do we know?

We set the scene in today’s Clarion-Ledger.

Will Redmond‘s mother, Vanessa Brown, was surprised when the Clarion-Ledger alerted her of a report linking her son to an NCAA investigation on Thursday. Byron De’Vinner, Redmond’s 7-on-7 coach, questioned the methods and pointed fingers to the staff at Memphis East High who, he said, are directing NCAA investigators to him because they do not like him. He’s also worried about Redmond’s future.

MSU has not acknowledged a connection to the probe and Angelo Mirando‘s sudden resignation on Sunday. Neither has the NCAA. However, the school did confirm that this examination has been going on over the last several months, and that the joint investigation is nearing an end. MSU also promised to release more details soon.

So, why hasn’t anything popped up in my regular open records requests over the last year? Great question. Sometimes schools use outside counsel to handle investigations, which the schools believe is not subject to open records requests. Mirando has been mentioned only once in my open records requests since he was promoted to a full-time position in January of 2011 and that was for sending a tweet in May of 2011.

I filed an open records request Monday requesting more information. We’ll see soon if we receive any documents concerning Mirando, the NCAA and Redmond.

Meanwhile, the Columbus Dispatch, citing unidentified sources, reports the investigation, at least in part, is tied to a car purchased for Redmond.

And now there’s this: Late Thursday night, De’Vinner sent a text message to several media outlets, including The Clarion-Ledger, announcing his plans to “clear my name and go public” in the MSU and Auburn investigations. “I plan to tell the facts,” he said. A press conference, he said, will occur today or Saturday in Nashville. De’Vinner, as you’ll read in today’s C-L, is close to Redmond’s family.
Best summary of basics I could find.

Funny how fast ole Byron goes from a lying snake in the grass to a trusted expert witness when he is saying what some people want to hear...:)

He has made recruiting allegations before, at the highschool level, that were investigated and proven to be 100% false. His story changes every time he tells it now. State hasn't sent him a cease and desist because every time he opens his mouth his story becomes more and more outrageous and he becomes less and less credible... Of course, that isn't stopping Joe Schad from printing his every word as if it is the gospel truth...

So Missy State had a coach leave right before the season starts and dissociates a "booster" on the word of a snake in the grass? Bully been laying with a mongrel and got some fleas.

I think he got drunk and fell down the stairs and cracked the old noggin wide open. Bammers blamed it on a secret witness.

That was Logan Young. Tommy Gallion was the attorney repping some of the Bama coaches and who continually appeared on Finebaum to suggest he was about to blow the lid off of Fulmer/UT cheating but never delivered.

I won't go into the details but I pissed off a stripper who was a big Bammer because she was convinced Phil Fulmer was in on the "murder" of Logan Young. She got tired of me mocking her. (guess I did go into the details).

Let the whole story come out is all I can tell you. Will Redmond is still practicing with the team and will travel this weekend. If the allegations were debilitating against him, he would no doubt be suspended during the investigation.

Something happened there, I'm not denying that...and it is clear that Mirando knew and didn't report, which cost him his job. Notice again though, he was allowed to "resign for personal reasons." If the evidence was all that damning like BD is claiming, he would have been "fired due to NCAA investigation." But a whole bunch of sensationalistic BS stories are coming out on the word of DeVinner, who has proven in the past to be as unreliable and dishonest as they come.

How much Memphis influence can a 33 year old booster that resides in Georgia and works in DC honestly have?
