Reports saying Bernard King elected to HOF

This has been a head scratcher by even all of the retired players and coaches. Nobody understood how he could be left out, yet, every year he was left out. Glad he finally received the honor he is due.

Absolutely about time. The man was a player on many levels, with a very quick release that was difficult to defend.

I wish I'd been around to see him. Sounds like the HOF was well deserved.

I don't remember him in college, but in the mid to late 80s when King, Wilkins, Bird, English and Jordan were all scoring like crazy, the NBA sure was a lot of fun to watch.

Great news.

He is the best I have ever saw wear the orange. Ernie and Bernie are my favorite basketball Vols period.

I do remember him. I was a high schooler in the mid 70's and several times I had the good fortune to get to see him play in person in Knoxville. Speaking of future NBA greats, I got the oppourtunity to see him play as a sophomore in the finals of the "Volunteer Classic" against Clemson and "Tree" Rollins (UT won).

He was not just the best player I ever saw play for UT, he was the best player I ever saw play in the SEC. Oh, and by the way, for those who are too young to know, he was better than Wayne Chism, Chris Lofton, Scotty Hopson, Dane Bradshaw, "Swiperboy", or anyone else of recent vintage to wear orange.:twocents:

As a true freshman he averaged 26 and 12. TRUE FRESHMAN.
I loved his Kentucky story. After his first game against KY in Lexington, which the Vols lost, he was coming off the court and a KY fan threw a lit cigarette butt at him which burned him. In the locker room afterwards he swore to the media that as long as he was at Tennessee, he would never ever lose to KY again. He was as good as his word, the Vols beat them 5 straight before he left for the NBA. He was awesome.

He's not just the best player ever to play at UT; he's the best player in the history of the Southeastern Conference.

(Anyone who's thinking about Maravich needs to go look up how many shots that guy took a game, and compare his FG % to King's.)

As an aside, wouldn't it be great if UT went back to these unis from the 60's and 70's era? Nothing I have seen UT wear since has looked so good.

They would look great in updated shorts -- Illinois State wore 1973 throwbacks this past season and they were really nice looking, wouldnt mind seeing UT wear them for a few games next season.
