"Resilient" QB Nathan Peterman battling back

I am now worn out with bad performances, I don't care from who including coaches. You screw up, you sit and think about it. The losing must stop, life isn't fair, period, but Nathan Peterman would be my 4th in after everything else has exploded. He looked and played like a scared little boy and we don't have the luxury of waiting and hoping. The difference in how Dobbs handled things and Peterman told me all I needed to know, one has swagger, the other well use your imagination.

He’s not exactly sure when his thumb injury occurred. Filled with adrenaline and trying to press through a rough start, Peterman tried to keep playing through the pain.
“I knew it was hurt,” he said. “I was kind of willing myself to not be hurt. I didn’t want to be hurt so bad, I kind of hoped it was just a jam, but it turned out to be a little more serious, but like I said, I believe everything happens for a reason.”

he is a fine young man and I'm glad he is giving his all for the Vols and i would like to see him get another chance

There is a reason why he was #2 Quarterback he's pretty good! Jones recruited him to Cinci, I'd like to see him get another shot as well but don't think it's going to happen. He is much better than the Fl. game for sure.

No way CBJ puts Peterman in over Dobbs. I didn't expect to see Peterman starting in the Swamp, but these are two very important games. Why take a risk on any offensive possession.

I want all 4 of these young men to get a good fair shot, when healthy, and under as equal conditions as we can make them. Then it's up to the coaches to once again make their best call, as we pay them to do. And it's up to the guys who don't get picked for #1 to be ready, as in SEC football the starter will get banged up and someone else will get another chance.

What's sad is people are judging and projecting his career on one half of his first start on the road in the Swamp.

Not sad but smart IMO. Butch gave him the starting nod because he had a great week of preparation, earned it on the practice field. Butch's words.

When the game kicked off, the moment was obviously way too big for him. He had what was arguably the worst half of QB play in our school's if not SEC history. May not seem fair, but with the other options we have at QB, including Worley who performed much, much better vs the same team and same circumstances, Nate should not see the field again at UT.

Mop up duty with second stringers is no where even close to anything to judge him on.

Let us not forget, he had some key drops before the picks started.

Let it go. Don't recall the drops, surely do remember the picks, the early fumble due to being in the wrong play/alignment, the 4 yds passing. Not good. Worley has shown he can play, Dobbs has shown he can play, been reported that Fergy may be better than both. We've seen Nate.

That fumble in the red zone was not at all Nate's fault.

No way to deny that Petermans one start was not just a bad start. It was monumentally bad. Horrific. That doesn't just disappear, and it wasn't due to the opponent alone. It was baaaaaaad.

OTOH, he can learn and grow from it. He is a Frosh and it was his first ever start, so he has tons of time to grow and learn from it. But it is up to him to show the coaches and fans that he can do better before people will not cringe at the thought of him going into an actual game of American football.

i would like to see him given another chance somewhere along the line, especially against Ky,he should be able to get some playing time there

I don't ever think we are gonna have a lead big enough to give the backup qb some playing time for at least a couple of years.

Yes it was. Had them in the wrong play/protection/alignment. Heard this from a few "insiders" ... Ainge, Hubbs, Brice are the ones I remember. Being able to manage the game, get the players lined up correctly, call the right protections was the primary reason Worley started the season as our QB. It was very evident on that play that Peterman didn't.

I'm thinking if he came out when he hurt it in gator game, we would have more confidence in him. I believe he hurt it early in the game and it got worse.

CBJ said he was the hardest worker, first in last out. With that said, I do believe it will be an uphill battle against Dobbs and Ferg next year.

Peterman and perhaps one other will transfer...a lot depends on who we recruit. If we get a running QB recruit, I can see Ferg also leaving. Kind of too late for Worley to be going anywhere.

So I guess Fowler getting a free lane to disrupt the play was Nate's fault. Had the line not let Fowler in the front door, the fumble doesn't happen. Ainge tweeted after that play the same thing about the o-line.

But peterman put them and the RB in the wrong protection in the first place. That's why he came through untouched.

Ainge said on the radio later, after he'd seen the film, that that one was on the QB.

We'll just disagree on that point. Perhaps I'm being too hard on the kid. But I, along with a lot of guys on here, have been watching football for a very, very long time. It seems that the overwhelming verdict is that Nate is more than likely done as a QB at UT. That first half performance was that bad. You kinda know it when you see it, that the situation, the moment is just too big for him. Who knows, could be wrong ultimately, he could get in a game this year or even next and do great things.... but I don't think too many think that will happen.

As bad as Worley was early this season, he couldn't beat him out in Spring or Fall practice.

The Florida game sealed the deal.

That's enough for me on Peterman.

Hope the thumb gets better and his career in FCS flourishes.

Peterman is one of those guys from all accounts that gives his all, but it's not good enough. He's not an SEC caliber QB. I wish him the best, but unless he wants to ride the pine, he had better transfer.

I am tempted to believe the same thing, except I am constantly reminded how people can change and grow. He is young enough that there is a lot of time for him. That said, it will take a lot for him to see the field anytime soon. But he could end up emerging as a junior or senior following a season-ending injury to the starter, or some scenario like that. A la Darryl Dickey.
