"Resilient" QB Nathan Peterman battling back

He’s not exactly sure when his thumb injury occurred. Filled with adrenaline and trying to press through a rough start, Peterman tried to keep playing through the pain.
“I knew it was hurt,” he said. “I was kind of willing myself to not be hurt. I didn’t want to be hurt so bad, I kind of hoped it was just a jam, but it turned out to be a little more serious, but like I said, I believe everything happens for a reason.”

UT practice notebook: "Resilient" QB Nathan Peterman battling back | Nooga.com

he is a fine young man and I'm glad he is giving his all for the Vols and i would like to see him get another chance

He does appear to be a fine young man and I would like to see him get another chance, but at a place like UT-Chattanooga or MTSU, not at Tennessee. He is not currently capable of being a high level SEC QB and we don't have anymore time to waste trying to turn him into one. The upside with our freshmen QB's is way higher. Sorry, but that's just the cold hard fact of the matter.

Questioning Peterman is questioning Butch IMO.

Butch put him in. He must have showed something.

Pretty dang hard to play QB with a hurt digit of any kind.

Kid needs to stay and he will get another chance.

I know that all involved have said the decision was made b/c Nathan had the best week of practice leading into that game. So eitehr Worley was so gawdawful in practice that he got demoted when the second stringer looked better, or the second stringer actually had a terrific week and showed the coaching staff that he deserved a shot.

So yes I agree that he must have showed them SOMETHING or they wouldn't have done it, especially not against that D and in a game that was somewhat winnable.

I suspect that nerves got to him and he just panicked. I figure he's probably a good QB who just wasn't ready for the stage yet.

I think Butch was caving to the pressure. I think he was and is job scared. That's a good thing IMO.

I personally thought he put Peterman in just to silence the spectators! Everybody was debating who was better, after that first half the answer was apparent. Worley, who was struggling was still the best option at the time.

He clearly showed Butch something in practice that week, great preparation, ready to go... Butch said so.

However, what was the great, poignant quote by Mike Tyson? "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth"? Florida punched Nate in the mouth.... we saw the result.

As I have said before, if any coach puts a player in that he knows cannot get the job done and could cost his team the game just to shut whining fans up, that coach needs to be fired on the spot.
Do I think that's what Butch did when he started Peterman?
Hell no!

Agree. I think they were pretty much neck and neck in practice but Worley had the edge on experience so they kept going with him. But they needed to shake things up and thought maybe Peterman would break out during a game. He certainly has a reputation for being a better runner so it wasn't far fetched to think the offense might have opened up a bit once he kept it a couple of times. Unfortunately the complete opposite of a break out game happened.

Not claiming he should transfer because everyone thinks he is bad, but because Jones recruited Dobbs and Fergs - Peterman would just be better off playing elsewhere in a system he knows better -

If im not mistaken, I do believe that Peterman was also recruited by Butch Jones while he was at Cincy!
