I've been watching alot of the guys on espn, sports talk shows, and radio shows and almost everyone can't stop talking about how Florida and LSU are the two favorites in the SEC. It seems the closer the season gets everyone is jumping on the Urban and LSU bandwagon saying that Urban's scheme and LSU's talent that they will meet in Atlanta. Nobody seems to be picking the vols.

Good, I like it that way.

They are doing UT a favor. Every year they have talked that crap look what UT has done. Fulmer and his teams seem to thrive on it.

Just giveing more bulletin board material

Let them talk, that's all it is........talk. It means nothing..

:snoring: they're just filling space till the season starts.

If we make it through our first 4 conf. games at 4 - 0, we'll get plenty of respect.

Thats all ive seen and heard myself. It gets annoying, But its really not anything new.

For some strange reason it always benefits us/UT, So i hope they keep up all the talk, press, media. When UT is leading the way on the field they'll all swear up and down YUP"thats who we predicted back in the summer.

I don't care personally. Know one likes UT so it doesnt really matter. I mean we have a solid fan base, but still. Think of it this way, say we get to the national championship game and beat lets say USC. Then what? They wont hop on our bandwagon, OH NO. they wouldnt ever do anything like that. They will just talk about how half of our players shouldnt even be on the team because of all of these criminal assaults and say that we were just a thug school. But hell, we are the next miami, do I care? Hell no

The reason everybody has Florida picked to beat us is our games at Florida and LSU. And I pretty much agree there. If we lose both of those games, we stand no shot at the SEC East title. Either Florida or Georgia will grab it in that case.

Most of their arguments are, Tennessee is equally as talented as LSU and Florida, but the Vols have by far the toughest schedule of the three. Bottom line is we can't afford to lose more than one conference game this season, and we are the most likely to do so.

Florida has games at Bama and LSU, but if he works well with the talent, he's got a shot at fielding the most talented team in the SEC. LSU's only tough road game is Bama and should be a shoe-in for Atlanta. The only reason I'm holding back from saying it for sure is that Georgia was in the same boat last year and lost the division. But LSU is the most likely of any SEC to make the CG.

It depends on who you ask. Some say UT is the #2 team in America. Some say UF will beat them. Its just a matter of opinion.

I think volinbham nailed it. This is all just venting from people itching to see the season start. LSU got a big break this season, away-game wise. I suppose we deserve it after last year's schedule. Auburn, UGA, and Florida, almost consecutively. That was a beast. Among my fellow LSU fans, however, they seem to place their bets on UGA for the east this season, more than UF or UT. I think I may agree with them. UGA is flying under radar this season, and no one seems to care about them much amidst the Urban Meyer craze (although the same goes for UT). Has a first year coach ever won the SEC? No disrespect to UF, but I can't imagine we'll see them in the SECCG. Of course, that's a groundless assertion. I'm just going with my gut. My money, for now, is on UGA. Well, really, it's on LSU of course. But in the East, until the season starts, I'm a little wary of UGA. I guess we'll see. I'm also itching for payback from last year (which was payback from them from the year before, an endless cycle.)

Better watch the first year coaching stuff.

True about UGA. The only reason I fear them less than LSU and Florida is because we get them at home and should be cruising by that point. But Georgia is suprisingly talked about very little right now.

I'm just sick of everyone kissing Meyer's butt. He does seem to have a good system on bringing his team together and discipline but that doesn't mean that he is going to beat the SEC's best in his first year as head coach. It's a totally different ball game here than it was at BG and Utah. He will be facing all-american type players every week in the SEC and defenses that will destroy an option quarterback.

Which apparel companies do LSU and Florida have contracts with?  ;)

I believe both Florida and LSU are with Nike

Well, well, well ... imagine that.

They're both with Nike (which I knew, by the way) and ESPN is hawking them head and shoulders above UT, who, by the way, is with Adidas.

Just as the Sony coorporation has been soundly embarrassed because they were recently paying radio stations bribes to play their label's records, the same has been going on at ESPN with their hands deep in the pockets of the clothing and shoe giant NIKE.

Their reporting is so grossly slanted towards the teams who are in bed with NIKE, just as ESPN is, that it has become laughable and it is also becoming well known that they are on the NIKE tit.

When you see something that makes no sense, that has an unsavory smell of homerism, yet you can't understand why, always look for the money trail. It is there.

That's a good point. But I don't hold anything against ESPN in that light. I'd do the same thing if I were in their shoes. I mean, in the end, they're a business. They're not in business to be fair. They're there to make money in the end. If that means catering to where the money is, then that's what it takes. I don't hold that against them.

I just find the "LSU will win the west!" talk, while asking the rhetorical question "Has a new HC ever won the SEC?" Laughable.

Atreus... you know that you guys have a new HC too, right?

Would you say the same if it were political news that was being slanted to fit the philosophy of the station or reporter, which, by the way, happens all the time.

No, there would be a great outcry for fairness, honesty and integrity to prevail.

Why would we demand any less from sports reporting.

Why should we settle for anything less than honesty, integrity and fair reporting when it comes to sports reporting.

Geez, I don't suppose this could have anything to do with reporters inventing stories like ESPN Internet did with the phony academia story about UT.

I know they report bad news about everyone, but when was the last time they invented a story about one of their NIKE brethren?

I like seeing the Vols play with a chip on the shoulder. Seems to make them that much more determined to show that "in your face" intensity. I think it'e easier to stay focused and not get complacent when you are reaching for the top and not already sitting there. I would love to be the underdog in every game played.

Alright, claiming bias against ESPN is one thing. But this is absolutely off the deep end, OldVol. The fact is that Nike sponsors about 2/3 of all D-IA college teams out there as it is.

And the hype thing? Notre Dame is sponsored by Adidas, and I cannot imagine a more overhyped, overpublicized team than them.

Wow! I can't believe you haven't been keeping up with things any better than this.

Do you honestly think NIKE doesn't call the shots when they're dumping millions into the place.

Unbelievable.

I agree with you. Anytime you get on ESPN's website or you here some analyst talking they are always dogging on UT. There's always something on there saying that someone is in trouble or something about Fulmer needed to get his team under control. Sure some of that is the guys faults that have done the things but this crap happens everywhere all over the nation. So why doesn't freakin ESPN say something about those other teams?
