Lost my dad a little over a year ago. We used to talk about recruiting often and about 3-4 times during each football game. It has been a real struggle for me this last year; thanks for starting this thread as I got a little bit of healing out of it too.

I lost my father to cancer on Thursday morning. He was everything to me. He loved the Vols. Struggling guys, really struggling.

My heart goes out to you brother! I lost my father 5 years ago to cancer and he too was a big Vols fan. Sharing that common bond with my Dad was special because there were times in my life where it was the ONLY common bond we shared. I miss him today every bit as much as I did when I lost him. Losing your Dad is huge. Facing a world without your Dad in it for the first time is a struggle.

Rest in the knowledge that the Lord has taken his pain. He knows no weary now. Only warmth and Love in God's embrace. While you will miss him, you will see him again and know his love if only you believe in Him.

Thanks for the kind words and prayers everyone. I know that there is nothing that anyone can do. I can't tell you how much it means to me to come on here and connect. There is a sense of belonging and not feeling alone in my sadness. It feels like there are others with me. That is comforting. thanks

Don't feel alone in it, D-Rock.

Trust me, you are not.

We are with you, man.

A whole lotta lunatics in orange, but we hold up our own when it gets tough.

Cancer took my Father in 2003, he did make it to almost 89. Always hate to say goodbye but glad the suffering was over.

Cherish the good times and pass on his legacy to your family.

God Bless and go rest high on that mountain!

It's about time to find a real cure for cancer(s). It's frustrating that the medical community has failed to beat cancer after discovering cures for almost all other major illnesses over the last 150 years. There's been progress with some types, for sure; still, the big breakthrough has been elusive, and who hasn't been affected by this awful disease. I'm sure a cure--or range of cures--will come, and I hope it is soon.

Surviving has greatly increased in the past 25 years.. We are winning the war.. but it in not over..

So sorry to hear about your dad. I lost my dad to cancer in 1997. He and I went to a lot of Tennessee games in the 80's when I went to school at UT. His last night my brothers and I snuck in a cooler of beer into his hospice room and watched UT beat Texas Tech (August 30, 1997). He died the next day, same day as Princess Diana. Hold onto your memories, they will help you get through it.

Lost my mom on February 2nd, she fought cancer for six years.

It's a massive amount of suck. I'm sorry you have to go through it.

Wow Volly. I had no idea. I am sorry for your loss. That is a hell of a fight that your mom put up. I hurt for you as well. I like the description you used. A massive amount of suck is a good description.
