In my heart I'd love to see this. In my head I know it can't and shouldn't happen.

I love wayne, but he doesn't deserve his number retired. If anything Chris Lofton does before Wayne.

But man i love him and have enjoyed watching him as much as anyone else

Probably a decision that should be made years from now... I like him, and I loved having him lead the team, but I would say no.

The only point they would have to retire his number is that he was the leader of the team that went where no other VOL team could, but then I think you would have to retire JPs too.If you go on that reason.

I love Wayne but I don't think his number should be retired.

The highest honor is to have a number or jersey retired. For this to happen,
the standards should be very high. The recommendation is that a player must
achieve two of the following awards:
• First team All America as recognized in the University of Tennessee
basketball media guide.
• SEC player of the Year as recognized in the University of Tennessee
basketball media guide
• Member of an Olympic basketball team
• NBA or ABA All Star team.

Wayne was everything you could ask for out of a student athlete. He enjoyed himself on the court and was fan friendly. That said, it's not a good idea.

Wayne's the man, Id really really like to see this, but I can't see it happen. If we would have won the NC then that be a way different story. IMO!

Look ... it's obvious you can't retire Wayne's jersey. It's just too big an honor. HOWEVER, how cool would it be to get that orange headband on display somewhere in TBA??

I think that would be proper for UT's winningest player of all time ...

why would they make criteria if they aren't going to enforce them? Reminds me of the pic I saw in another thread today

Making an emotional decision a couple weeks after the season ended isn't the best idea. Plus they have to be 5 years out of school to even be considered. It makes for good discussion but a jersey in the rafters won't make me remember Wayne's contributions to UT basketball any more fondly
