Revisit of the 2015 Numbers

The class has a really good balance of talent vs positions of need right now. A LB (Sapp), OT (Sweet), and CB (Martin) would finish out the class nicely after Tuttle commits. We will lose a couple in the days leading up to NSD, but hope none are from the elite group.

Is there wiggle room on the time frame of that 85 limit, LV? I know 24 is the hard cap on the number of kids we can bring in on NSD but do we have to be at 61 scholarship players on NSD before bringing in the other 24?

Also what's the numbers look like on the amount of early enrollees we will be able to get in?

Maybe we can beat UGA and FLA this year and watch Richt and Muschamp hit the road. We can pillage their recruits.

No, they have till Aug to get to 85. As of NSD UT will clearly be over the 85 limit. Last I saw was the EE's would be 11 or 12 for 2015.

So potentially 8 players would have to leave that aren't seniors if we sign a full class? What's our usual attrition rate?

Our "averages" have skewed high over the last 6 years with all the coaching turnover. I wouldn't use the average as predictive of the future. I think we'll see less and less attrition (aside from the early NFL draft entrees, of course) as coaching and talent stability returns....ethical question, if Jacob Gilliam doesn't return to the field this year and was able to get a rare 6th year granted, would you encourage it? Would Butch?

Let other players go if we land Tuttle? If we beat UGA and then UF do we make way for the influx of recruits that will come to UT?

This isn't a recruiting question but a main form question and if you move it again, I'm done here. This is a main board question and I would like an answer

Lol. You pulled a Bill Simmons. You challenged the bosses.

Yes, that is what has to happen. It's risky IMO. If enough players don't choose to end their time at UT, the coaches will have no choice but to start forcing kids out. Hopefully it does not come to that. If you want to see recruiting take a nose dive, let a few current Vols talk about being tossed out to make room.

Generally it's handled differently though. Say a player isn't going to get playing time here and they can play ball somewhere else. It's in both parties best interest to go their separate ways and I'm sure Jones tries to help players that leave the program. Cutting ties with some because they're not fulfilling their part of the scholarship because of grades, conduct, or effort is part of that as well. I don't see these guys getting "tossed" out as long as they fulfill their end though.

So do we still think Lovingood gets a scholly?

I would think he would be a preferred walk on and get one eventually. That said most think he gets a scholarship day one. I just don't see how you do that with as many great players we're in on and the lack of spots we have to sign them. I'm not underestimating the importance of the position but I don't see it.

If that's the case, it'll depend on how bad Lovingood wants to be here (and of course the financial situation of his parents). He can get a scholarship somewhere else very easily as opposed to paying his way the first semester/year

Just do what bama does and place the upper classmen who aren't finding playing time on the unable to play due to injury list. They don't have to leave but their scholarship no longer counts against the 85 limit?

Is there really no NCAA oversight to that list, if there is such a thing?

Wrong. Over-recruiting is a necessary evil. 4 & 5*'s won't likely get over-recruited, but 3*'s will. If that makes a 3* think twice about coming here, so be it. Fill that spot with another Shy Tuttle.

Because Horkey has been flawless at Oklahoma...that hack Stoops gave him a scholarship.

With the commitment of Taylor we can all go home now right? Not even close. There are tons of speculation still ahead. Who is going to start looking around? Which commit will be asked to look elsewhere. As far as Lovingood we get a 4 year starter. Looking at the commit list, I like them all to be VFL.
