I do want everyone to understand something though, Dooley will go after the best, but only if they have legitimate interest in UT. He's not going to go pander to prospects that we don't have a good shot with, IMO.

Don't think that is good. Bryce Brown, David Oku and N'uKeese convict Richardson had no legit interest in TN. A little building of those egos and we landed them. Can't just go after the guys who with legit interest - recruting coaches need to develop that interest in UT. IMO

Oku always had interest in UT.

Janzen Jackson was a product of the previous staff, though, as was Brown and Richardson.

I think Maclain is a OL all the way. He's gotten bigger every year in HS. I wouldn't be surprised if he is 270-275 by the time he gets on campus. Dude is a monster.

He's already almost that big. I think around 265.

He could come in at 285 if he pushed himself. I think he's OL all the way... no way he'll play TE.

As for #'s for 2011 class... we will definitely be heavy on OL and DL, but I agree with Rex it's too difficult to throw #'s out there.... I always go by the philosophy of take superstar players if you can get them no matter what your needs are. So if we are in position to take 3 of the top 5 RBs, although we don't need 3 RBs, I would take them over a lesser rated (by the coaches, not recruiting services) OL even if the need was higher.

Bartholomew will be a Sr. but Rivera will only be a Jr. He has 3 years to play 3. Adderly and Wegzyn are both walk-ons at TE. You may be right about taking 2. I don't think MacLain will be a TE though. Big time OT imo.

Good to know, still think we should take two. No way MacLain ends up a TE. He was 270 going into his junior year, he could be up over 280 by the time he gets on campus.

tell me if I'm doing the math wrong. 81 scholarship players right now. 16 seniors to graduate. If we don't put any one on scholarship or have a lot to leave, that means a max class of twenty before you determine if any back count.

Here's how I think they will break it down after this upcoming year....

In 2012 expect.....

QB - 1
RB/FB - 2
WR - 3
TE - 1
OL - 4
DL (DT and DE) - 5
LB - 3
DB - 4
ATH - 1
K - 1

That's 26, with 1 non-qualifier.

I dont understand why we would want to sign someone that does not qualify. Their recruitment is always reopened when the go to Juco or prep school. I say let the non-qualifiers go and concentrate on the ones that will qualify.

For the most part, it isn't quite as cut-and-dry as non-qualifiers and qualifiers. There are a lot of kids that are on the fence. Its up to the staff to determine if that particular prospect is worth monitoring. Even if the kid doesn't qualify, sign-and-placing the kid will help you out the next year or year after whenever they come out of prep or JUCO.
