Richardson visiting this weekend

Bringing his mom with him, IMO he will commit this weekend.
jmoore, what's your opinion on this kid and a possible commitment? Is he worth it, or is this a case of CCM staying true to his word and offering the kid no matter where he is? Or is it both?

FWIW, I am cool with whatever, as a fan. I'm just curious.

Pros: Athleticism

Cons: Basketball IQ, Ball-handling

Doesn't that just seem to sum up all of Bruce Pearl's recruits (I know, I know, Tobias is an exception. but still).

Haha...

Cons: Everything you would want in a basketball player

Pros: He can uhh... jump high and run fast.

Bruce Pearl's recruiting in a microcosm, everybody!

Would rather have Ware but I'll take Richardson if Ware doesn't re-commit

The general mood around here is anti Ware, and I understand that, what with all that's gone on. Does anyone really think this Richardson is better than Ware or have more potential? I hear rumors he's overrated a bit, but that could just be sour grapes.

No sour grapes at all.

Richardson right now is just a better basketball player. Doesn't mean Ware won't develop into a good player down the road. The talent and potential is definitely there. But if I had to choose between one of the two, I would go with Richardson. Ware has a long way to go as a basketball player.

I would love for both of them to be Vols, but I don't know how realistic that is at this point.

Sign both if we can and a post! We have 5 Schollies to use.

I would not be shocked to see McRae transfer. Because our coaches want players to focus on defense and McRae no likey defense!

Mcrae isn't transfering. He's been working the phones talking to Ware to convince him to come here. Did the same with Chris Jones.

Add one more complete uninformed opinion to the volnation pile. McRae has been recruiting other palyers (Jones and Ware) as much as he can. He has nothing but good things to say about the new coaches so far.

"Outstanding Shooter" is all I need to know. Heck, decent shooter would be a step up from what we have now

this thread is borderline delusional - 1 year removed from the elite eight were excited about a 2 star bball recruit with no offers to speak of - really? Talk about the lowering of expectations

Hey, we're excited to have any real point guard on board. The previous staff was unable to recruit a point guard.

I thought Richardson had 3 stars on Rivals and was ranked #121 overall.

he is a 2 star on scout (link to scout was in this thread)

he is a 3 star on rivals - offer list is TCU, Penn State, Ga Tech - not too great IMO

Richardson is a SG, though...

yep - think he was thinking of Wes Washpun - the other marginal recruit - he is the PG other than jones - if we keep jones that will be two PG's in this class

due to need washpun makes a bit more sense - especially since Jones looked touch and go there for a bit

Yea, I know. Just was responding to the poster who thought there was nothing about recruiting to be excited about. Having two point guards on board is exciting regardless of how the rest of recruiting goes. Richardson appears to be similar to Ware, even though Ware is much higher rated. Their skill set appears to be very similar.

Richardson is in the Rivals top 150. Ranked as the 121st player in the nation to be exact.

He will be a solid pickup & bball player for us.

Martin really has no choice but to take these kids right now, who else is he going to get? All these people getting mad at him taking Richardson & Washpun need to wake up & realize we are very late in the recruiting game for this class & we need to fill up roster spots. All the bigtime prospects have mostly already signed to a school or have no interest in us.

I'm still concerned about signing a post player in this class. Any news on a possible recruit that is interested.

Tell that to the 2* guys who played in the final four this year. The big star from Kentucky still thinks he can play in the NBA. He will be lucky to play in Europe next year.

Scotty or a UK player? Its hard to follow and I am just asking for some clarification. IMO if Scotty hires an agent he has been told some info from the scouts he is working out for that we do not know. It is hard to imagine Scotty leaving if he is not garnering big time interest from multiple NBA teams. Scotty has what it takes to make it in the league from a talent stance, and if he can put it together mentally and improve his ball handling he will be a matchup problem on both ends of the court. Its all a matter of how hard he works at developing his game and how his interviews with GM's go.

Your use of the word "marginal" is interesting. There were plenty of teams in the show this year made up of "marginal" recruits. There were teams with nothing but so called "marginal" recruits handing out beatdowns to some of the better programs. I tend to trust that the coach has a pretty good idea of what he is getting in these 2 cases.
