Richt leaving UGA?

Everyone keeps talking like Kirby Smart is an automatic at Georgia if Richt leaves. I understand the name popping up, but Georgia isn't just some chance to prove you can be a HC. Georgia is an elite program. Not sure they would just hand over the reigns to a guy who has never had a chance at HC anywhere. Especially since there is a common denominator for all of Saban's great defenses. Saban.

Thanks for the compliment! TA&M might have tried to contact Richt, I've heard the same rumors on the UGA board, don't think there's any legs to it. Richt's family ins entrenched in Athens (and he has a big family), and he has a LOAD of talent coming back next season. What coach has ever walked away from a talent-laden team to take a team with less talent? :hi:

I don't agree that UGA is an elite program, but i do agree that Richt isn't walking away from it.

You could have just let it lie and all would have been well. McGarity just announced that the rumor was unfounded. He said nothing of the elite thing! :whistling:

Dooley had been a HC before.

I was implying that UT isn't where a coach should come to prove he can be a head coach because MTSUDaff said UGA is a power house where a coach shouldn't to go prove he can be a head coach. Dooley was a head coach at Louisiana Tech but like Smart he still hasn't proven he can be a head coach but UT hired him. A lot of power schools hire coaches that haven't proven they can be head coaches.

Would be a huge coup for aTm if true.

Would also free up a few recruits for us to try to poach.

Plus I like that A&M is coming in to the conference by stealing a coach. Adds a little spice, even though they may not play UGA for 100 years.

Could this be another "Stoops to ND" rumor that crashes and burns? No idea why he'd leave unless he's on a very short leash at UGA.

To be fair, no elite coach wanted this job at the time.

Richt to TAMU. Smart to UGA. Sumlin to Illinois. Peterson to PSU. Helfrich to BSU. Mora to UCLA. Calhoun to ASU. All before close of business (Friday, Dec. 09) today. ////////////

There aren't many elite coaches out there anyway, but schools like UT and UGA should at least hire coaches that have had some success at a smaller program.
