Rick Barnes discussion (merged)

Because I so enjoyed the Buzz, Tyndall, and Martin years. So much fun.
Exactly. It can and has been worse...much worse. Strong possibility that we don't make the NCAAT next year which might make some of our fans appreciate the times we do. Granted, we haven't exactly excelled in the NCAAT and have suffered some heartbreaking losses, but we're there. Not something to be taken lightly IMO.

Who recruits these guys that can’t score?
To be fair, Barnes did develop Grant and Admiral. He's also been recruiting some very highly ranked players who left early. Never know...he might have some magic left in his bag.

When Barnes leaves let's shutdown the program. We've been told there's nobody out there.
Not saying we can get who we want, but I think the job is a lot more attractive now. Credit Barnes for leaving the program in solid shape.

Damn near impossible to find a coach with this program’s resource$ to take over for a guy that hasn’t been past the Sweet Sixteen in 14 seasons. Be lucky to get an average high school coach in here 😏

No one can score except Vescovi and he’s mainly a 3 point guy. If he’s cold this team can lose to anyone

Yeah, it’d be awful to check the hood there, wouldn’t it? If he says no you move on—this isn’t complicated.
Yeah man, let’s check under the hood of a guy that NBA teams are currently wanting to get out of retirement. If you have no clue what a realistic option would be, that’s okay. Just say so.

Sorry, but this thread is getting old. Does every SeC team have fans as delusional as ours? We deserved every bit of the misery of the 15 year football run we just had.

Chris Beard. Someone is going to hire him.

Not saying he is or isn't a good hire (the charges were dropped), but he's a good coach.
He would be the absolute best coach we could get, I agree with you there. 2 issues with him tho: 1, PR nightmare (for this reason alone, there’s zero chance DW would ever go this route.) 2, he would absolutely be looking to jump to a historic blue blood once his image was restored. Argument to be made whether or not we could retain him in this scenario, I’d lean no, but if we chose to shell out the money our pockets are definitely deep enough.

I say shut it down...Nobody out there. Just turn TBA into Pickle Ball courts.

Barnes has made us relevant and consistently ranked. Deserves a lot of credit for that. We do need better players however and our recent “one and dones“ haven’t benefited us beyond some exciting moments, albeit Chandler did help bring us a SEC tourney tile. If you look at current senior class:
Vescovi came out of the blue and is a very solid college player and developed a lot over 4 years but his upside was always limited.
James as a 5 star has been a great teammate and leader, and does alot reasonably well, but given his high school rankings, has been overrated from a talent standpoint. Injuries didn’t help him but he peaked.
Nkamhoua was another project and improved for sure but disappeared often. Of all the seniors, I think he has more in him, but Barnes couldn’t get it out of him.
Plavsic was a better cheerleader than player. Had a few moments but talent wise was very limited.
Key as a transfer fit a need but there was a reason he was a mid-major recruit.

Overall, we just need better players. Desperately need a PG in transfer portal or we may struggle next year. Could use a post too. Looking forward to seeing the newbies.
