Rick Barnes discussion (merged)

IMO, you're either a dude or a chick. However, that's not the "norm" now.

Now explain what this has to do with my assertion that our young men deserve a positive male role model. Did you simply make a joke that fell flat, or did you intend to make a point in support of your advocacy of Beard?

😂 Barnes isn’t “the guy”. That funny stuff right there. I’m betting there would be several good candidates interested in the job with the base Barnes has built. Especially if we can make the transition smoothly with RB retiring and not having to fire him when he’s in his 70s.

That's actually a large problem in America, especially in a certain community that most players come from.

I never said to hire Beard, but people love to cast the first stone

No doubt, when Coach Barnes decides to retire- and it will be HIS decision, sorry Negavols- the program will be a much more attractive program for prospective coaches than it was after the Show Cause era of Pearl and Tyndall. and the stupid petition era at the end of Cuonzo’s tenure. CRB has restored integrity and class to the program while winning at a very high level.
This is true however that doesn’t mean that our basketball program can’t be better! And it also doesn’t mean that Barnes is above fair criticism!

So you think I meant that he was bumping uglies in his restaurant dining room with some cougar’s mother?

Not at all. It doesn’t matter who he was bumping uglies with, because it was a young adult is not the reason he hasn’t gotten a P5 job.

Barnes didn’t build sh—. That was done under Pearl and still held together until Barnes arrived.

Amazing the lengths some of you sheep will go to to salivate over a guythat Texas fired and hasn’t been beyond the Sweet Sixteen in 14 friggin’ years. “We can’t do better”😂

What a joke.

Some of us here care about the honor and integrity of our alma mater.

We've consistently earned high seeds the past few years. We're a big time program, and we operate with integrity.

I too care about our honor and integrity but I care about winning more. We’re in a small minority that care about such antiquated things as honor and integrity in major college sports.

Yes he has, lets hope he doesn’t hang on so long he tarnishes his legacy.

Barnes did build what we have now, a stable and winning program. He deserves that credit.

Pearl started the whole mess to begin with.

Blame him for be an idiot over a stupid barbecue and shi**ing on his own assistants.

NO! My username has nothing to do with my fandom. I’ve always been a Vols fan.

I did marry an Arkansan though but it has nothing to do with that either.
Cool. Just when I saw Hog, I thought you might be an Arkansas fan, my bad

This portion of your post is a joke. Say what you will about his success or lack there of in the postseason, but Barnes deserves credit for building a consistent, stable program. The Pearl era was four years and two head coaches in the rear view mirror when Barnes arrived. The only essence of Pearl remaining in the program when Barnes arrived was Chad Newman.

Talk about a joke. Barnes inherited a dumpster fire. There was nothing left from Pearl.

The Barnes bashers can at least put together a decent argument with some mediocre results in the NCAAT. But to suggest that Barnes took what Pearl started is just flat not true. The 4 years between were brutal, and Donnie Tyndall gave Barnes a team of transfers or young guys that needed time. Most were sent packing.

If you told me when Barnes was hired we’d be 8 years into his tenure before the “Time for Rick to go” threads started, I’d take that trade hands down.

Bwaa-ha-ha, held together 5 or 6 years later after one coach skipped town and left the cupboard bare. Followed by the next coach that almost, instantly got a 10 year show cause. Nah, Barnes built it all and you know this. I agree, Barnes has majorly underachieved in the NCAAT, but he still rebuilt this program, kinda like a Phoenix rising from the ashes.

Love coach Barnes and he can coach as long as he wants here, but he's a sweet 16 coach. Looking pretty good and giving us hope only to look like crap on offense and underachieve when it matters. New team, same old song.

Question for errybody…who would you rather have coaching us heading into the postseason—Barnes or Pearl?

Look i love Bruce and still have hopes one day he has a second tour here. But even if Cuonzo didn’t tear every remnant of Pearl at Tennessee away, you can’t sit here and say Tyndall wasn’t the final nail in the coffin for anything still lingering from the Bruce era…. Barnes literally turned water into wine here….

With a deep team that is also experienced, Pearl simply based on the upside potential.

At this point, Barnes literally needs to do something he has never done in the lives of college basketball players since they were in diapers. I do think this team is special for Barnes though.

How dare you sir! Barnes = coach K. He has been to exactly 1 SS in 7 (about to be 8) seasons!!!
I'm not saying that either*. I appreciate what he's done. He's just not "the guy." It's really that simple for me.

*I know that's not what you're really implying (I just need to explain a lot to VN sometimes. We have special posters).
