Rick Barnes discussion (merged)

We have the $ to pay any coach. We have the facilities. We have a damn NBA sized arena. We have a huge passionate fan base. We’re producing good instate talent right now. We may not be a blue blood but we still have a decent tradition in basketball We have everything you’d need for a nationally competitive program.

We just need a coach.

Very much so. I think we make the Tournament though fwiw. The talent/coaching ratio isn't adding up like it should.

The fact that Barnes even plays Uros over Brandon is frustrating. The dude plays like he is Zeigler's size.
Why is it frustrating BHH looks totally clueless

UT Football was very attractive also in the 90’s and early 2000’s or so we thought. We fired a Hall Of Fame college coach in football and didn’t have a better option and that had set us back 20 years so far. The mens BB team wasn’t attractive at all till Bruce Pearl came along. Bruce leaves then we go through Cunzo and Tindall before Barnes. I’m not saying change isn’t needed eventuslly but you don’t fire another hall of fame coach unless you have someone better already lined up.
Barnes is a HOF coach because of what he did BEFORE Tennessee. He’s done nothing here. Cuonzo will have done just as much at the rate we’re going right now.

Yeah cool. Barnes FF was damn near 20 years ago. And if Pearl can get frikin Auburn to the FF he could get us. Cool stat you have there… now do their record head to head… I’ll wait
I like Bruce Pearl, he is a dang good coach. I never said he wasn’t better than Barnes. What I said though was he has the same amount of FF appearances and never brought one to TN. Nor will he ever since he screwed that pooch by getting a show cause while here.

Like it or not, Pearl did more harm than good to this program. Brought us to the limelight, then right back to darkness. Rock bottom was Tyndall. Barnes at least has us back in the right direction. Maybe when he retires this admin will get us a coach that is top tier.

I wouldn't say that. He is a freshman though that should be a SR in high school. I'd rather have him out there making plays at his size and affecting shots vs Uros getting put on SCtop10 because he's such a pansy down low.

I'm happy with Uros free throws for a big man. That's about it.

It just came to me - He’s like Fulmer was. He’ll always recruit well and win enough to make the tournament, won’t win consistently at a high level. There are pros and cons to that. I really was hoping for more.
