Rick Barnes discussion (merged)

Can’t discuss with illogical folks.
You answer no questions and just talk. Go to sleep and learn what it takes to win a conference and make deep tournament runs. Then report back to me and possibly Barnes so he can figure it out too.

Haha…we lost one game so we have no chance of winning the conference? Makes total sense.
I just said show me how you think we get to better than 13-5 in the conference. Do you know what the second half of our conference schedule looks like. Do you think Kentucky is going to lose 5 games in this conference? Do you think we are sweeping Kentucky, along with Bama, Auburn etc. Has this team shown you anything to believe this? These are simple questions. Then with 10 losses headed into big dance with around a 4 seed, do you see this team making a deep run unless there are upsets we can’t control and lower seeded teams fall to us?

He has a Final Four on his resume.

You should know this considering you know more about sports than anybody on here. 😂

If we sweep Auburn, Alabama, and Kentucky we will be a 1 seed. You seem to completely misunderstand seeding and how other teams will perform in conference play. I would assume we split UA and UK, with a win against AU at home. Do that, assume 1-2 more road losses, and this team will be firmly in the mix for a 2-3 seed. With our schedule, 7-8 losses will be a very very strong resume. And I doubt anyone is winning the SEC with 3 or less losses this year.

Sir, going 13-5 in conference and losing a game in Sec tournament would be a 10 loss season. It would also equate to probably a 4 seed. Are you trying to say we are going 15-3 in conference and only losing once to Bama and Uk rest of the year. We already have 4 losses…so I fully understand everything..you seem to be miscalculating something

I was asking that guy if he believes that is what we are going to do. I didn’t say we are going to do that. Is reading comprehension for people that hard. I asked him how he thinks we are going to win the Sec and get to a better record than 13-5.

I said what I’m “trying to say” in the post. You’re welcome to read it again. Also, 5 losses in conference play would be 8 losses. We only lost 3 pre-conference. You should focus on basic math before trying to diss everyone else’s reading comprehension and “miscalculations”.

So 9 losses headed to the big dance or do you have us winning the Sec tournament.. I said a 4 seed and you want to argue over semantics that we may get a 3 seed…

Exactly…rinse and repeat…14-4, 13-5 in Sec…good but not good enough to be conference champ…will either have a bad shooting day, rough officiating, or take a half off and get bounced before a deep tournament run…same exact story…good but not good enough…flame away if you need to but I want conference titles and deep tournament runs and with Barnes and his so called success and paycheck...that should be demanded and expected
Sounds like you’re new to college basketball.

You'll be called a "casual" (like thats a real insult) but you are 💯

Winning the SEC Tournament is great, but what happens there doesn't really seem to have any bearing on seeding. Tennessee won it in '22 and wound up a three seed despite being a fringe 2/3 heading into that weekend, while going two-and-done with a Mizzou last year didn't drop the Vols from the four line.

Yeah I am just the run of the mill casual Vol fan. I come and go, I mean if you consider watching every Tennessee basketball game for 23 glorious years. Also growing up in basketball crazy Louisville may not hurt in knowing a tad something about the sport. Oh well. I like to talk real to fellow Tennessee fans, it’s sad that many either cant grasp it or won’t demand more out of a program that is in a great position to be even better than they currently are.

I said we would be a 4 seed with a ten loss season….he came back we would be a 3 seed with a 9 loss season…lol…well ok…

I’ve sat through Jerry Green (literally went to all of those games), Buzz Peterson, Cuonzo Martin, and Donnie Tyndall, and this is what our fans think. Some of our fans are in for a reality check when the time comes that someone else is coaching the team.
You didn’t like going to Sweet 16‘s and the dance every year underJerry Green but now like doing the same thing with Barnes. That’s weird. I didn’t like losing to UNC and Charlotte under Green. But of course I didn’t like losing to Fau, Michigan, and Sister Jean under Barnes either.

lol I mean, being a casual fan isn’t an insult, but if you grade a season based on the last game, then you kind of are a casual fan (which is fine) because you obviously put no stock in the 35~ games before the last one.

That’s what I find perplexing about the “tournament is all that matters” crowd. You all say the regular season is irrelevant yet none of you hesitate to moan and groan when we lose a regular season game.

I want deep tournament runs too, but I also enjoy the 30~ game ride of a successful regular season. Winning 25 games a season is far from a given and that’s what Barnes has done 4 of the last 6 seasons.

Lmao exactly. The insanity to say “all that matters is march” and incessantly post in game threads and in here is hilarious. How little must be going on in your life to live in this forum all the time, when all that matters to you is 3-4 weeks in the spring. I’d be chilling elsewhere. Just me tho.

Jerry Green went to one Sweet 16. His teams were not disciplined. He lost to Illinois State, SW Missouri State, and UNCC in the NCAAT. He never won a conference tournament. He won the East division once (not conference), and he tied with 3 other teams with the conference best record. He never had a ranking above #4, and then promptly lost about 8 of his last 13 games in the regular season. He had a total of 2 top 10 wins in his four years. Barnes has 11 top 6 wins, and 12 top 10 wins. 2 wins over #1 teams. So, please tell me how it was much more fun watching Jerry Green at Tennessee. Common sense; not weird.
