Imagine this team if Burns were still on the roster. Got a sick feeling that we'll be saying the same thing about Dillione and Jefferson at some point in the next year or two.Do we have the same S&C coach as we had in the Grant/Admiral days?
Aidoo and Estrella could have made this yrs team much better if they were 20 lbs heavier.
UT will likely finish 2nd or 3rd in the conference . . . Win one in the SEC tourney and get a 2 or 3 seed . . . And make the sweet 16 . . . And then go home.
A really good season . . . But this is not a final 4 team. Getting pushed around by physical teams does not equal a final four.
I think being a fan automatically makes you want “more”. However, by design, this is not a Final 4 team. This team was never built from coaching staff down to be one of the best of the best, it’s designed to be “really good”…..and that’s ok. This team simply lacks depth, desire, and focus at all facets to be a Championship team but they are fun the majority of the time to watch. Entertaining, that’s what they’re designed to be.
Agree. Final four should be the goal at this point and this is one of Barnes best teams, if not the best, @ TN since Knecht can end another team’s runs. It’s like this…let’s say you get one shot at a bullseye…low probability you hit it and not much is expected. If you get 30 shots at the bullseye you should be able and expected to hit the bullseye some. That is March basketball. Problem is we get shot after shot and have never hit a bullseye. Hof coaches and top 5 paid coaches should hit the bullseye more frequently than standard coaches as well.
You once again make no sense with your arguments on the recruiting after UCLA…he would have brought in better players than Uros and Olivier..they were simply the best left he could get. His history before that and after that proves it. He quickly retooled I said, but the writing was on the wall with where his head was at and how the team looked in 19-20. You didn’t answer the question about the regular season titles. Hope you arent glossing over that. We are playing in an era where Kentucky is no longer a dominate force. Heck they are the 4th best Sec team in last 5-6 years after Bama, Auburn, and us. Don’t you view us as the best Sec team during this stretch, since we win so many games. Are we or are we not the best team this year? So one would expect more than one share of a regular title and one should expect a regular crown this year. I certainly do. This is not solely a March issue. For as many things as Barnes does well, he could do better. All I’m saying. Have a good one. If Barnes tenure at Ut ends with 1 conference title, no final fours…heck at this point maybe no elite 8’s I would be highly disappointed as conference titles and deep March runs are easily there for the taking during this time frame. Have a good one man. Nice discussion. I just have expectations and multiple conference titles and a Final Four run are not unrealistic ones.
UConn lost 5 in a row during the regular season last year.I'm in this camp now. I have been optimistic lately, but to get owned by Texas A&M with a veteran team doesn't bold well. I can understand if we had the youth of Kentucky or Alabama. When I measure this team I think of how a UConn, Purdue, etc would have performed. It would not have been what we saw last night.

I agree. I think this loss benefits us down the road.Oddly enough, there can be some competitive benefits. If a team wins all the time then the opponent knows what to expect and what to prepare for while the coach that’s winning isn’t likely to make changes. By dropping several games in certain places, the game plan is going to be less predictable as coaches make adjustments.
It wasn't just Gainey, Vescovi couldn't match up with A&Ms guards either.I agree with @CAVPUT in that Gainey was just not a good matchup for us. Every time a Texas A&M player got Gainey you could just about see them smile. Someone mentioned needing Gainey offensively, but this was the kind of game you needed Mashack driving into the lane and pushing some guys around.
Exactly why Sweet 16 through Final Four should be best of 3. Last year wasn't a total anomaly, but the final 4 was a 4 seed, two 5 seeds and a 9 seed. Kansas won it as a 10 seed back in the late 80's with Danny Manning and a bunch of mediocre role players that rose to the occasion. Ask Texas about jumping on a coach who got his mid major team to the final four. We got their discard, who is the only coach I know of since the 1960s, that the two bluest of bloods have courted to be their HCWe enter the NCAA tourney, and like the other teams we cross our fingers. The tourney is not as easy as people think with so many teams getting hot towards the end of the season.
You’re looking at why this team will never do anything in the tournament. They just can’t get up for games and look totally lost. They are lucky Missouri stinks otherwise they would be getting killed. I think they read their own headlines and just come out and go through the motions and struggle to catch up.
