He was throttling down from 30-35 win seasons to 20-25 win seasons, and losing 7-8 conference games a year (in the AAC) instead of 0-2 (in the Missouri Valley). He won 23 games the year he was being investigated and they cancelled the season for covid. If he was throttling down, what do you call TN's cooling off after Grant left.
You just have to hope that by the time he walks away, he's left something salvageable. At this point I'm just shrugging my shoulders. Rick Barnes is a great guy but I think we all know what we've got at this point. Not sure we can dump him and do better at the moment, so ... we can just deal with it.
Yeah, I agree, things could turn around. I spent years supporting the lady Vols. I mean really really supporting$. The mens team was mediocre at best during that time. The women were top of the world with a hall of fame coach. Then along came Hollie Warlick. I lost interest in sorry coaching, and by then Bruce had the men on A roll. When Barnes was hired I figured he was looking for a place to build up a larger nest egg to retire. I was pleased with his success, disappointed in ncaa tournament results.A few thoughts. Some of the reactions to the UK game seem knee-jerk. This team is the same team that beat Arizona and Colorado.
Bad games happen. Covid drained energy and disrupted team chemistry. At the end of the day, we still have a good team.
A strong showing in the conference tournament and run of any kind in the NCAA tourney will only confirm this.
What would happen if we suppored Coach Barnes and the team the rest of this season instead of mutiny which would do no one but our
rivals any good anyway?
Go Vols!

Barnes has definitely accomplished “ building a larger nest egg To retire” . In the meantime, we continue to overwhelm in recruiting and underwhelm on the courtYeah, I agree, things could turn around. I spent years supporting the lady Vols. I mean really really supporting$. now, I’m just going to enjoy the womens run. Hope it continues.I suppose that makes me a fair weather fan. So be it, I’ve only got so many years left to enjoy Tennessee sports success.
I’ve never said I thought Pearl was coming back. Do I wish we still had him as our coach, sure, I would love to be sniffing Final 4’s instead of first round upsets every yearYou still think Pearl is coming back, that's not realistic. Plus, you overreact every game like basketball isn't a game of runs, during the game and during the season.
I could accept that a little better for the return we are getting from Barnes. Once Barnes used the UCLA job to get a $1.5M raise from UT, he increased the expectations. So far, Other than 2019, he’s pretty much average at best. Just like at Texas. Guess that’s why they fired him.So were you okay with the $3.5 million salary before UCLA attempted to pick him off from lowly TN?
