Frankly, I don't think Barnes is a terrible coach. In fact I feel like he's quite good, but I also don't believe he will ever take us "all the way." Such is life.

I posted it yesterday. Pearl is only 67% at the D1 level. He was 83% at D2 which, while really good, is not the same as doing it at the D1 level.

Coaching is coaching. You can't invalidate Pearl's D2 record because it's convenient, but I digress. At the end of the day this thread is about Barnes and his apparent inability to win the top prize. I would absolutely love it if I have to eat crow, but I don't think that will ever happen.

D2 compared to D1 is the equivalent of AAA (or the Japanese league) to the Majors. Or European leagues to the NBA. Plain and simple.

Any coach dominating in those leagues with a greater than 80% win rate would absolutely have a high probability of success as a coach in the next tier. Using your logic, calling up a superstar in AAA ball would be a foolish and risky proposition. :D

Even though this thread is about Barnes and his apparent inability to bring us home a title, please explain how Pearl has elevated Auburn to where they are today with such deficient coaching skills. As I've mentioned many times now, I feel that Barnes is a fine coach. I also don't believe he has the right stuff to go all the way. My opinion and I hope he proves me wrong, but I have serious doubts.

No, calling up the entire AAA squad would be foolish, just like it would be bringing an entire D2 team to D1.

Cheating. There's a reason why they were ineligible for the post-season last year. And before you claim Pearl had nothing to do with that, we've seen firsthand that he's not above using his assistants as scapegoats.

Boy, there are some stretching of "facts" in these threads. Frankly, people have their opinion and then find any data to back that up and not the other way around.

If you don't think they all cheat, I have a bridge for sale. When you're talking the kind of money that's on the line, everybody leverages for an advantage, but not everyone gets caught.

And clearly Pearl isn't smart enough to get away with it. Why people idolize a guy that has been in trouble at all his D1 level jobs is mind-boggling.

Auburn is overrated. They would have lost to Kentucky is not for Tyty Washington going down and then Savhir Wheeler getting injured.

They haven't really played anyone impressive put of conference. And the few tough team they have played like UK and LSU were at home. They really don't deserve the #1 spot and are more the like a top 15 team.

That's fair, but you never explained how Pearl was able to take the dumpster fire that was Auburn and elevate them to this level of dominance. Perhaps it's good coaching?

So do you personally feel that Barnes will ever make us a dominant, national force? What is his ceiling? Is the Sweet 16 good enough?

I did say it: cheating. If he's that great of coaching, why didn't he ever do that here? He had at least 2 teams that should've won the SECT and been in the FF. But he didn't. And also, if it's just how great of a coach he is, why is he constantly surrounded by controversy? Clearly he feels he's not a good enough coach without cheating or else he wouldn't be in so much trouble all the time.

Specious argument really, unless you have some evidence that he is cheating at Auburn. Ultimately, unless proven otherwise, he's doing a great job. I predict he will accomplish more there than Barnes ever will here.

I personally feel that with Barnes, we will have respectable teams, but I fear that we will never have great teams. I hope he proves me to be wrong.

The post-season ban is proof enough. The fact you won't take that as proof is sad. Teams that don't cheat don't get post-season bans.

My very first post posed the question regarding when Barnes won his last major tournament. Then you dribble out some nonsense about how winning the SEC means nothing and that half the coaches don't want to play in the tournament. Yeah, I'll take the opinions of the people who lose as conventional wisdom. o_O

The fact remains that Barnes can't get it done and take us all the way. Prove me wrong.
