Rick Barnes discussion (merged)

The same way that Pearl is still relevant to so many people.

Pearl is a point of comparison because he was a former head coach of our program, the program being discussed. Furthermore he has the better career record and is currently outperforming Barnes. Personally, I don't know that I would want Pearl back even if we could get him, but I do feel he has a better chance of ultimate success in the NCAA than Barnes.

Absolutely. But get back to me when Barnes gets a 3 year show cause or one of his assistants goes to jail. Then he’ll be in the same area code as Bruce when it comes to shady. Doubt that’s going to happen though. And again I love BP but a saint he ain’t. And I’m sure it won’t stop Louisville from pursuing him. That program has always operated in the gray areas.

This isn't about NCAA violations for me. That was brought up by others. I feel that Barnes can't and won't bring us a title. Simple enough. I also feel that Pearl has a better probability of doing that for Auburn. All of which are my personal opinions; none of which means I don't love UT and want to see us fail. Ultimately, if I had to eat crow and Barnes brings us a title (either SEC or NCAA championships), I would be very happy to admit I was wrong.

What's the point of winning a title if it's going to be vacated?

This is ridiculous beyond measure, but I'll bite. Better to win something than to be a perpetual loser who can't seal the deal. When Barnes wins a major tournament for Tennessee, get back to me. I'll happily eat crow and revise my opinion.

Vacated means it means nothing to everyone but those in denial of it being vacated. And is just like it didn't happen.

Nobody is holding a gun to your head, you can leave. As I've said multiple times, you clearly are happier as a Pearl fan than a Vol.
Maybe you should consider doing that yourself since you don't seem to care about how much we win or our prospects of ever winning a national championship.

You clearly need to open a dictionary and learn what vacated means.

Clearly you don't understand my meaning at all whatsoever, but not everyone has the capacity for complex thought processes. Ergo, even if it is vacated from the records, the team still physically won the match at that point in time. It happened, and vacating the game(s) is a logical, not a physical construct. Are you still following me? Good. Therefore, I assert, in my opinion, that it's preferable to always being a loser and never getting to the final game (let alone winning it) in the first place.

You called him a bad Christian for "leveraging". He didn't manipulate, didn't issue an ultimatum. He spoke to them, and the AD did what needed to be done to keep him. You made it personal, and showed your ass while doing so.
Did I say the words "bad Christian". Again that would be a no. Thank you for the compliment on my ass. You, however, would be the best person who would know how to show your ass.

So, you made a comment initially about his Christian beliefs. What did you mean with respect to your statement?
I am not going to bother justifying my interpretation to someone who is obviously looking to have an online "measuring" contest. Go find someone else to pick on. You are not worth my time.

Umm, to say I am picking on you for that is clearly not true. It’s obvious you’ve got an agenda and commented the way you did in your initial post because of your disdain for Barnes.

It’s been 11 years. Most students at UT today were in elementary school the last time Pearl wore PMS151. Way past time to let him go.

OK. Then judging him as you have is "not how a Christian behaves." That is what you said exactly. Him trying to make sure his career is on the track he wants it to be is a helluva lot more Christian than your judgement.

And as I said, no one but the minimal fan base will care in the least once it's vacated. Nobody claims Memphis has a second Final Four because by all records they don't. That's just as bad as claiming some podunk publication national championship.

Distain? That's a pretty harsh word. Agenda? I just have an opinion like everyone else on here does. Again, go bother someone else. You are wasting your time here.

I remember that tournament very well. Calipari's Memphis sure bent Barnes's Texas over a barrel in that one. More evidence that Barnes can't get it done. Nevertheless, plenty of people that I know mentioned how great of a team the 2008 Tigers were. I can't recall anyone mentioning how great Barnes's Texas team was that year. I recall the general sentiment was that he choked, and did an awful job of coaching.

Want to know something else? Sure, it's officially vacated as far as records go, but the NCAA site itself still shows the Memphis wins, even if it has an asterisk, alongside Arizona and USC. You may disagree, but I still feel that's better than being a loser. History has shown that thus far Barnes is always the bridesmaid and never the bride. Maybe you're happy with mediocrity, but I want a title.

Keeps dangling the embarrassment they brought. You want to hang your hat on a stripped title shows the lack of morals and integrity you have.

A simple Google of "Memphis Final Fours" only shows 1.

Calipari still whipped Barnes like a red-headed stepchild and nothing you ever say will change that. As far as embarrassment, it's pretty embarrassing that our coach would pay an assistant out of pocket. What does that say about us? Poverty program under Barnes since he couldn't get the administration to step up and pay his folks? Seems strange that it would even be a concern, maybe there's more going on than we know.

As far as Googling Memphis, what did you expect? It was officially vacated, but if you look at the image I pulled from the NCAA site itself, there they are. It proves they still played and they won, but politics got in the way, so they took it away as punishment. Doesn't mean they didn't whip Barnes and everyone else except Kansas in overtime. I suppose I'm a bad person and will burn eternally because it doesn't particularly bother me.

I'll tell you this, I would rather see Barnes take our boys all the way and have it stripped than to always be a loser who couldn't get it done. Does having a title stripped because one player on your team had to fudge a little to pass the SAT diminish the accomplishment? In my opinion, heck no. Why do you think we have NIL at this point? Because they all do what they can to fudge as much as they can. To think otherwise is asinine.

You want to know what else is embarrassing? Paying a man approaching (and soon to exceed) $5,000,000 annually to never win any titles.

If you think I am going to engage with you, sorry. I never said anything about a salary. That’s how much it’s on your mind. Slurp, slurp.

You must be triggered, and it's hilarious. I like how you can only retort with "slurp slurp." Thank you for the intelligent discourse and counter-argument.
