Rick Clausen

I love all the people that get on here and in some way think they are living out their dream of dong something they could never do; playing college football. They come on here and bash a kid who is putting in countless hours everyday at practice, in the weight room, and in the film room. They think that they can sit on their a$$ at their computer and critique these kids and question them. Its actually quite humorous. What Clausen said shows his character (positive character). Do you think a player like Hannon or the departed Schaffer would come out and place the blame on themselves? Not a chance. Hannon has never taken any responsibility for his actions (and by actions I mean extremely lackluster performances by an absoluely stud athelte). Which would you rather see, a kid like Clausen who takes responsibility for his actions, or a kid like Hannon who doesn't care and plays only for himself. I don't understand how Clausen has done anything to not earn respect from logically opnionated fans. He is lacking in talent and yet gives everything he has to this football team. Its not the best, but I guarantee you it is "his" best and its UTK's fault if they can't find a QB better than he is. Its not his fault. Get your brain's out of your a$$ and start making some sense when you post.

The number one problem is coaching, but not in the manner you think. The issue is simple, when you have two quarterbacks, you have none. This is not a stab at either Rick or Eric, but more of a stab at the coaches. What I mean is that when you prepare each week for each game, the practice snaps have to go to someone and if there split, then who is getting 100% prepared. With this also comes issues in the actual game. Each is trying to one up the other in order to stay on the field. They take risks that are above them and they push past there talent levels to prove they deserve to stay as the starter. If you don't believe me then think about when Rick played his best, when he had something to prove or didn't have to worry about being yanked like in the cotton bowl. The fact is that as a coach you can't just switch them like pitchers in a game, going with the hot one. Imagine if Eric would have finished out the UAB game with a win and the switching never happened. He plays with the confidence he had last year and we win. But no, Rick is the starter against UF and then back to Eric at LSU. This is a pattern that spells bad times in a football game. This is all I have to say on this matter. I would like to ask one question to all you so called fans who have been using this site to make personal attacks on UT players. Eric had a shoulder injury last year and look at the injuries Rick has played through. What about Riggs and his knees and Jason's hip. What about the numerous injuries to the O-Lines knees. Injuries that these young men will have the rest of there lives, and why? Because they wanted to play football for UT. What have you hater done for UT, buy a ticket, log onto this site and bash these you men? Enough said, either be a true fan or buy a moving van and leave the nation!!!! :matrix:

That doesn't actually matter at all. I could be an NFL hall of famer and that wouldn't mean anything as far as me being dedicated to Tennessee's program.

No, but it has something to do with whether you know what's better for the program than Rick does, which you claimed.

If Rick Clausen could throw with his mouth, UT would be undefeated.

Oh shut up. Clausen is getting a scholarship and a free ride in college to go out and play a kids game every day, what a lot of people go out and do for fun. Work hard??? He's probaby not had a real job in his life so far. There's a lot more to life then playing college football, and the majority college football players have it made while in college.

He should recognize he had more impact on Sanders resigning then almost anyone else. What were you expecting him to say? It was all Ainge's fault or the defense this year and thats why UT is 3-4 and Sanders is resigning??

why dont you go see if you can carry Clausen's jock strap around after practice instead of coming in here to bash the boards.

Hey, Ooltewah Vol......

These poor 18-22 year olds that you refer to have (for the most part) been playing ball for years; most have had great high school coaching; most think that they 'hung the moon'; so, what's wrong with expecting them to play just a little better than they've been playing? I don't go for this 'thinking of them as just kids' stuff. They strut around campus like they are the best thing since sliced bread. Let 'em get on the field and prove it!!!!

Hey, DaGreek......

Don't worry about my title. My comments are very tame compared to a lot of 'dyed in the wool' fans on here.

Skills, bashing, coaching aside. WE certainly don't like it when one of our players runs off at the mouth, no reason for you guys to like it either. During our Dumbose debacle, we had a bunch of players spewing all sorts of crap to the media and one who quit speaking to the media all together, so at least you are not THAT far down.

HE's the one out on the field, this is HIS time.  He has the right to say whatever he wants.  We wouldn't be having this discussion forum if we all weren't fans.  and yes, you are entitled to your opinion.  it's not right or wrong, just your opinion.

yes this is his and randy's finest hour...

Let's just accept mediocrity and never have an opinion. Let's just be happy with 3-4 and poor performance from people that fire off their cannon's every week at the fans. If he's gonna pop off, then by God he's gonna get popped right back. I don't care if he's putting in 24 hour days, he sucks and ain't gettin' the job done. I'll say what I want to about Rick Clausen and whomever else I want to.....and I DONT HAVE TO PLAY COLLEGE FOOTBALL TO DO SO.

I have been there and done that. Have you?
If not then I challenge you to try it one day in a D1 program.

I do expect them to play above the level they have. All I challenged was that he was slaming him and saying he would be glad when he was gone and how poor of a player he was.

I for one as I said before am not pleased with some of their play but they deserve better than these so called know it all fans. Now I am finished with this complete post. You guys have no idea what it takes and yes they do get treated a little better but they also spend hours in prep and have very little life unless they are the ones who want to party it up and we for sure don't need those in the Orange on Saturdays.

If what you mean is that Tide fans "don't want none" of "Iceman" because they never beat him would be quite an oversimplification. That would be akin to saying Florida wishes Peyton Manning was back at UT.

I think most of America was glad to see the "Iceman" gone just so they would stop showing that stupid picture everytime UT was on TV. I have a very close friend who is a UT fan who said it best during a game, and I quote, "damn, we get it already, he looks like Val Kilmer from like 20 years ago."

wow

after reading all of this, it feels as though i am in a room with a bunch of girls. We are talking about college football here. It's not the end of the world if we have a bad season. If we have a bad qb. If our OC was a tard and needed to be slapped with a frozen fish. It's not that bad. The team showed real class against LSU, and played hard against all the other opponents. I know it's hard to believe, but there are lots to look forward to this year and especially next year. We will make a bowl game. We will have a good recruiting year, and we will come back next year with a change to contend. What more do yall want at this point in the year?

Would someone please show me the gun that is being held to the head of the Vol football players! the University of Tennessee has in the past few years become a very competitive school in academics and entrance requirements not to mention the cost of tuition. I attended from out of state in the early 90's and it was expensive then. It is even more expensive now. Besides the full scholarship that some, but not all, are taking advantage of, it is a source of pride that will last for a lifetime (or it should) to put on the orange and white on Saturday and play for the Vol Nation. There are thousands of great athletes that would give anything to have enough talent to play in a program like Tennessee's. So if some of us give a few of them a hard time for bitchin like a little girl....TOUGH! If it sucks so bad and the fans are so mean, then quit and go take advantage of all those other great opportunities in your life that are superior to doing what you are doing now at the ripe age of "18-22"!

GO VOLS! BEAT ND!

Not going to have that great of a recruiting year, and we are 3-4...a bowl is nowhere near a lock at this point. If this team quits, we are capable of 3-8. Anyone can beat you if you can't score.

I'm tired of the people that get pissed when you bash a player. News Flash to the uninformed.......This is a message board for a team that is 3-4. What do u expect? 98% of us haven't played college football. But we still have opinions and I'm tired of my knowledge of College Football being put into question by people that feel sorry for Student-Athletes. Rick Clausen is an ass, that's pretty much the point here. That's all I'm saying.
