Natural gas is cheaper. They can mine the coal if they want and sell to china or whoever. You tout capitalism as the path to efficiency, innovation, and competition but yet you still want the government to make US policy that favors this antiquated industry.

Not shuttering coal plants isn't necessarily propping up an antiquated industry.

Abandoning an "antiquated industry" puts the country at risk when it's one of the most important components of the energy mix.

Government support in the form of promoting technological advancements in an already established, massive industry isn't the same thing as slapping unnecessary regulations on another industry.
