Rickea Jackson Minutes

Fans only know what see. We are not talking about Edie Darby, we are talking about a gamechanger #1 portal player in womens basketball portal. Showed signs early of being the athleticism we needed on the court to win and showed signs early of "oh no, that is not good" when we lost. I'm not going to say she's a good kid or a bad kid because as fans we don't truly know unless we have a personal relationship with them. I'm just concerned we are 1/3 into the season and we seem to have an ongoing situation. She's a first year LV but she is a 4 year SEC player, this isn't new to her.
Well as I’m sure you know-you are known by the company you keep. Rickea is good buds with Jordy and Jordan’s mother, a no nonsense woman I would guess based on her daughter, was very excited about Rickea coming to UT. Good enough for me.
Just because she has played in the SEC doesn’t mean anything relating to the LV culture. Look at UT football under Pruitt vs under Heupel and that was at the same school! Totally different cultures.
You should give her and yourself a break. Don’t worry so much, it will work out.

Lots of talk about the situation being a distraction, but I don't notice the players being very distracted on the floor. Many of the younger players are stepping right up to the opportunity for more mins, both due to RJ and TK's situations. Obviously it's not a situation that helps the lockerroom and it needs to get resolved one way or another pretty quickly. Also obviously we really need RJ's talent to make a true run. But I don't see the players seeming down, distracted etc on court. Remember, this is basically the team that thrived on overcoming adversity last year.

I, on the other hand, am distracted to a terrible degree. Everytime I log on I'm afraid I'm going to be greeted with ultimate bad news. The apparent recurrence that led to last night's sit out is very, very troubling. I thought it was behind us. I want this to work out for the best for all involved, and I really want this to work out for Jordan Horston. Having RJ out there is so freeing for her.

Barring the bottom falling out the next day or so, I think RJ doesn't start, but plays lot of mins at Stanford.

P.S. I love Cora Hall! Asks all the right, tough questions! Finally an actual reporter on the LVs beat!

Except we do know that is not the issue. It’s basketball related per Kellie.
That’s a pretty broad catergory. Academics could easily fall into that.
Rickea is a student-athlete. I’ve also heard she’s exceptionally bright. I was a terrible student.

Yeah but if it's academics or grades, it's hard to explain 2 games out, 1 game back, 1 game sorta back. Also, it's been widely stated that RJ has historically been a very good student.

Her return to the court followed by an apparent recurrence leans heavily toward an attitudinal disagreement. Hope I'm wrong, bc that's way more dangerous than grades, but that's what it looks like.

The exact quote I believe was "it's nothing outside of basketball." For me that does eliminate medical prob or grades.

I pray they can get this straightened out, whatever the issue. Kellie has resources and mentors. Some of the best in the business, right there on campus.

Right and I totally believed that would happen, until last night. That ugly surprise really threw me. Still hope though.

It's all very mysterious given the vetting that it seemed was happening both w the LVs and the RJ camp last spring. Seems like both should have known what they were getting. The buyin with the Mom and with JH and her Mom seemed like a sweet insurance policy. I guess you never know what the pressure of the actual season will bring, especially with the disappointing start. If we win several of those first games does this happen? We'll never know.

Plenty of drama here, to be sure. No drama around MJ…😉

Bitchin’ and sharpening swords with Phil?

I had picked the Stanford game as the one where the LVs would gel as a team and pull off the big upset. I am now far pessimistic about this outcome. You don't have to be a basketball genius to know that the LVs need to have Jordan H. and Rickea playing at a high level, along with everyone else providing some good offensive support and great defense, to be competitive with Stanford. The weird, weird, UCF game just was not the way to get RJ ready for this big time matchup and in the flow with everyone else. I hope to be wrong but I think it is going to take more time (which is now starting to get in shorter supply) than two days to get everyone back on track.

Dontcha know Kellie is aware?

Coach Harper's statements about how this has been "nothing outside of basketball" strike me as very odd.

Sure, there are some line in the sand issues, like team rules. It doesn't matter if you are Candace Parker or a walk-on, the rules apply to everyone, equally as do the consequences for breaking them.

After the odd UCF game, this "situation" looks more like something that is going in practice with attitude or effort but on the flipside, RJ had been killing it in games, scoring, assisting, getting rebounds, and to my untrained eye, working pretty hard on defense.

So, if a coach wants something more or different in practice, I think creating a speculation spectacle by announcing an "indefinite suspension" is not good player management. A coach should be able to motivate a player in more subtle ways. Sometimes star players are higher maintenance and demands for coaching patience come with the territory of running with race horses and not plow horses,

And putting RJ in as a garbage time player in what should have been her tune-up game for the nationally televised Stanford meeting (and right after Rickea had a great outing against UCF), is an almost unfathomable change in tone. I can't see how anything positive comes out of that coaching decision and whatever message it was intended to send.

I am generally pro-player because they are the ones who win you games, so that is my bias when it comes to coach v. player power struggles.

For sure not grades. She is very smart and makes good grades. I hate to see this latest development. Love the kid but sadly I am not surprised.

Everyone is wishing her the best and hopefully it gets resolved. She had to make some sort of improvement to even suit up and step on the court.

A positive is she played her minutes and still played with in the team game that's a step in the right direction. In those ten minutes she also played the best lock down D i've seen her play. If she continues to play like that i believe the issue will be resolved.

I think she is has to work her way back into the starting lineup and maybe she has now. Maybe Kellie didn’t want to simply say, “all is forgiven and you are a starter”. Have a short leash but lengthen it as your trust increases.

I wish the title of this thread could be changed since it has become "the lastest on the RJ situation" and since she is PLAYING, the indefinite ban is no longer the current status.
maybe adjust it to "playing limited or playing less"
