I think this mindset is in place due to things like the Tueller Drill. In a no kidding grapple/melee scenarios there's at least some argument to be made for something like a trench knife. I'm not sure that necessarily means that'd be the first preferred option, at least for most people. As a position defender (assuming I'm armed) staying out of melee weapon range would be pretty high on my to do list.

Of course there are situations where it's going to save the day. There is no chance the out of shape dork who called out little Mark Zuckerberg, then wouldn't fight him for charity, and faked BJJ skills, is better with a knife in close quarters than with a gun.

I was mostly commenting on where I "think" his thought process was coming from which isn't entirely without merit. That doesn't mean under most circumstances I'd agree with that take.

Yep. Twitter was an extreme leftist echo chamber before Musk. They're not used to other people having a voice. It's not perfect now, but somewhere around 1,000x better for sure. They'd be more comfortable on Blue Sky, but would rather just cry incessantly about Elon Musk - more entertaining for me at least.
