RIP Twitter

The only way to send a message of concern with this change is if there is a mass exodus from the platform the day after such a change has taken place. There will be an alarming number of deleted twitter accounts this week. This will send a message to Musk, that nobody wants that platform to become reddit. When (and if) it becomes clear that isn't happening .... then most, if not all, of the people who deleted their accounts (like myself) will rejoin.

An alarming # of deleted accounts this week? Who is going to be alarmed?

BTW, Reddit is moderated.

People can and do distinguish between what's true and not. It's insidious to argue that the government must be the arbiter to protect people from "untruths".

Distinctions are made every minute of every day. This is typical Obama making massive strawman arguments that rely on a view that citizens must be protected in all aspects of life from each other; for their own good.

I can see why you lap this up. It perfectly fits your view. It is anti-democratic as hell but it fits the view.
Do you think truth in advertisement laws on pharmaceuticals are appropriate?

Why do you care if it’s Reddit even though there a huge huge assumption not backed up by any facts
Unmoderated platforms become havens for conspiracy theorists and pornographers - not child pornographers - but people who spread adult pornography (... and I'm loyal to PornHub, lol).

But there are also going to be a lot of people coming back - those who are dissatisfied with truth social and other places as well.

I suspect the new "war" will be trying to gain control of the committee that manages the algorithms, which Elon said he will open source. I expect that is going to become a lot like Wikipedia perhaps. Even so, Elon only wants to remove illegal content (child porn, stolen or hacked, etc), as far as I can tell. The rest, he believes should have a place to be said, even if it may not necessarily be heard.

Meh ... very lightly so. There is a great deal of trash.

I mean Reddit by in large allows you to pick what trash you get, though. You can subscribe to Star Wars to see people bitching about the last 8 movies, or you can subscribe to politics subs and homemade porn subs. For the most part, they’re not going to inundate you with crap you don’t want, especially if it’s labeled nsfw. It’s not that different from twitter except you follow topics instead of individuals.

I remember the mass exodus to Canada after Trump was elected. Oh wait. 😂

Instead he was attacked daily by corruption and misinformation.

What about all the people joining and re-joining?

^^^^ Mostly accurate.

I honestly can’t remember laughing so hard at something so insignificant . You could fill a dump truck up with the amount of irony and hypocrisy that all of this is producing . I’ve never been a fan of Uber wealthy people ( I think they are all dangerous ) but if I was one, I’d be a lot like Elon just because I could . He should tweet out a list of “ Companies to Buy before I Die “ with Twitter checked off and Net Flix next one up . 😂

Lol! Would be the ultimate troll if he did. You should get a troll consulting gig. I see a bright future for you! Well done.

Agreed. Government should regulate their free speech.
But how about on their packaging? Or pharmaceutical reps to doctors.

Pharmaceutical companies are too intertwined with government and that is where I think the power to prohibit advertising would come from. Pharmaceuticals that do not accept Medicare/Medicaid should be able to advertise all they want.

If every liberal member of Twitter deleted their account ... and every conservative member remained, or rejoined, while politically neutral or politically apathetic members also remained .... you would see an (approximately) 20% reduction in overall Twitter membership. Would that be enough to get Musk's attention? I think it would.
