RIP Twitter

So almost everyone who exists could qualify

I guess in the same way that you can read the definition of "talented" and say "almost everyone who exists could qualify"

It's subjective and you can interpret the definition however you want, I'm just saying it's faulty to exclude it to anti-racists. That's not the definition. If you are anti-racist but don't think gays deserve the right to be married, then are you woke?

He's got that ultra online demographic in spasms.
Yeah, and a huge reason for that isn't necessarily political, but simply because their employer is going through a very public and dramatic ownership change. Raises obvious concerns about their career direction/job security, especially if your job is to moderate content.

Of course it is because you want to excuse that he knowingly used racism to win that campaign in GA. How is it “stupid” to suggest that? You just want to make excuses for when your cult party does the things you pretend to be against. This is why you aren’t taken seriously because you have no actual principle, just tow the party line and give grey area made up percentages 😂

Jimmy Carter's racist campaign of 1970
lol.......That's a crappy piece of "reporting". The whole article does nothing more than reference a book written by Steven F. Hayward (a conservative mouthpiece) entitled The Real Jimmy Carter: How Our Worst Ex-President Undermines American Foreign Policy, Coddles Dictators and Created the Party of Clinton and Kerry.

He discredits his own book simply with the title.

Now to the Abram's quote(s). Anything?

wait Twitter was only popular because of Trump?

you realize it skews strongly liberal - you know the simpletons.

I'm saying the controversy only has legs because of Trump's use of it. But in fairness, that extends to some of his prominent supporters, too, certainly.

I actually tend to agree with the right that the restriction of certain statements is unhealthy. Now, I don't think that its akin to a every "free speech" issue out there because its a private entity, not government, so the analysis is a bit different. I'd rather Trump (or a representative) be able to say whatever he wants about the election results and let people respond to that.

The solution to bad speech is more good speech.

I can't imagine all the dire predictions and gnashing of teeth is because of Trump.

Given your feelings on free speech you should be celebrating Musk's acquisition

It'd still be a story even if Trump was never banned. Social media company censoring of conservative voices has been a big topic of conversation on the right for many years now, certainly before Trump was banned and even before he became President/gained his notoriety for using it.

Perhaps something of a hot take, but part of the leftist animus against Trump's use of Twitter, aside from the fact that they hated him, was that Trump will go down in history (not Obama) as the "social media President."

Obama was the first President to really make use of social media. When Obama was running, and then after he won, the media really liked to emphasize how adept he was at putting campaign videos on YouTube, used Twitter to connect with a younger demo, he had way more Facebook followers than John McCain, etc. It was a FDR using the radio or JFK using television type of moment. However now when you think Presidents and social media, everybody thinks of Trump's use of Twitter.

Uhhhh

You mean the government working with social media to target those who commit “misinformation” isn’t a good thing? Wonder why they disabled the dislike button on YouTube for the White House’s official page after the demented moron was elected?

Yeah .... I was despondent about losing Twitter, but then I took stock and moved on to something important, like Tennessee's 2023 recruiting class... and we landed Sylvester Smith at 3:30. I feel great now.

(The broader point being ... you guys have a tendency to overstate how 'triggered' liberals truly become with crap like this.)

The 20 something child of the people I’m working for is in crisis mode. Literally thinks the democracy is ending because musk is taking over Twitter

This is fascinating and honestly scary. I get the 20 YO...just maybe..well not really. But to see what are supposed grown adults? Yikes.

I have no idea if they did or not, but I am 100% certain that the book blew anything and everything way out of proportion and in the most negative slant imaginable.

Look at the friggin title of the book.........that tells you all you need to know.

Elon Musk buying the Tweeter Machine is apparently the worst thing ever. I saw some article headlines and stuff so I guess I’m outraged now
Shouldn't be. Him buying it is a good thing. Now if he or someone like him would just buy Facebook then maybe social media will be better .
