Is Boston College setting a precedent, and do you think this will have implications beyond the head coaching positions?

BC has told Coach Jagodzinski he's fired if he interviews with the Jets.

I bet their chances of hiring a top-notch replacement just went to zero.

Would you want to work for an employer that denied you the right to look for better opportunities?

Word is he is going to interview anyway.
I think it's classless on BC's part.

Do they really think that their University is greater than the possibility to be an NFL HC?

What are the details? Was this before their bowl game?

I just can't fathom an administration that would do that. I guess they would just promote someone up? What a freakin' mess in January for that school!

If I was BC fan I'd be going bananas right now.

BC's making a huge mistake. No one, other than perhaps a BC alumnus, would consider taking that job if it meant he couldn't interview for other jobs down the road.

If he were interviewing with other ACC schools, I could almost see their rationale...but it's the Jets, of the effing NFL.

This is a big mistake on BC's part.

He was approached after the Bowl Game...

And apparently the Jets done it in a classy way as well going through all the correct channels.

BC just decided to be ignorant to the situation..

I think it's safe to say that BCs position on this is, they will not be tolerating leveraging for a pay raise.

I do everyday. Coaching at BC is no different than the car biz except coaching pays waaaaay better, of course.

I think they are going to promote the OC if he interviews.

That OC is Steve Logan.

He was a pretty good HC at East Carolina for a number of years (Jagodzinski was an assistant to him there).

I still think this is a dumb move on the part of BC, even if they don't have to fire up the coaching search right now, because they will have to go outside to find a HC eventually, and this action will limit their options.

I would like to see it documented. I heard it on the news as well. There could be some legal issues if in fact, they actually said those words to him and it isn't specified as such in his contract. That being said. they have just take their college to a new low on the sleazeometer.

When Saban left LSU, he recommended Houston Nutt for the job
Frank Broyles told Nutt the same thing, if Nutt interviewed at LSU. He would have to fire Nutt..

Nutt didn't interview

While I still don't think that's good policy, You have to note the difference in interviewing for a NFL HC job and interviewing for a SEC West division rival.
