The only justification is if the Jets didn't ask permission to interview first. Even if they didn't, it was not the coach's doing, so it still is a questionable tactic on BC's part..

It's really really stupid on BC's part.

I read that the Jets did ask permission and went through the proper channels.

Word is he is going to interview anyway.
I think it's classless on BC's part.

Do they really think that their University is greater than the possibility to be an NFL HC?

I agree it's pure classless. You can't fire someone for interviewing at other schools. Sure if he was going on an interview with there big rival or something, I could see them getting mad, but even then you can't tell him your going to fire him. I mean honestly! You aren't going to keep a coach forever...

This is just stupid. What BCS conference university would restrict their coach from interviewing somewhere else, especially somewhere where they wouldn't have to worry about him going to another ACC, or college job? Just stupid. Wonder if he's interviewed just yet?

If I'm a recruit, and the school I'm interested in has groomed a coach the NFL wants, but the school fires him just for interviewing with the NFL....do I still want that college taking care of me as a student?

I hope the Jets hire him if he decides to go on the interview. Would suck to interview for another job, then loose your job, and not even get the job that you interviewed for.

Not at all! But I think there is more to the story then what we are hearing. I'm thinking the University may have someone else in mind, and this is just an easy way to get the old coach out. Doesn't seem right, but telling a coach your firing him for going on an interview for the NFL isn't right either.

It is a low blow to put a restriction on a coach like that. BC has been around long enought to know that coaches wanting to move up to the NFL is part of the industry.

Boston College: Multiple media outlets in Boston are now reporting that head coach Jeff Jagodzinski is out as head coach.

I'd interview in a heartbeat, even if I felt I didn't have a chance of getting the job. If they fire him, he'll get some sort of buyout, right? I can't imagine its a great place to work if your boss is placing that kind of stipulation on your job

Good for BC. It's time that some one takes a stand. These coaches sign contracts and should be held to them. The Univeristy and especially the players recruited by these coaches are owed this. Wait and see if we are not in the same boat in 2-3 years.

Depends on job prestige, money involved and likelihood of obtaining that job.
I personally think BC is a little out of line here.

I dont like college coaches in the NFL they never pan out.

That's a very good point as well.
But the NFL coaches make the transition to the college game just fine.
I don't understand the drop-off in leagues. I mean, I know they are two different games, but why are these great coaches having problems at the "other level"?

IMO its like this, the NFL is the cream of the crop coaching and talent wise in all aspects of football. Therefore if you've made it in the pros for several years you are a lock to be good in the ncaa, where its obviously second fiddle and much more simplified. Thats why I think now,at this moment we have the best coaching staff in the nation at UT. Awsome to think of it actually.:)

Is Boston College setting a precedent, and do you think this will have implications beyond the head coaching positions?

BC has told Coach Jagodzinski he's fired if he interviews with the Jets.

If that was their attitude, I would make it easy for them.

We will see ya'll later.

Wickedly evil of BC provided it is true. I'd do it behind their back regardless. He works for the school, they don't own him.

Maybe it is just the ACC Stupidity...First Miami denieing Marve release to specific schools and now BC doing this...Ignorance at it's best fellas!

This is the dumbest move I think I've ever seen an AD make. If I were the BC president, I'd go over the AD's head, publicly announce that the coach wouldn't be fired merely for interviewing for a job at the highest level of the profession, and probably can the AD himself. They're never going to get a good football coach to work for them again.
