Riyahd Jones cleared to play!

Glad he is in. This is a little off topic but is Maurice Couch out for the year due to the improper benefits? Does he have to pay it back before being cleared? Does he have to serve multiple game suspensions before playing again? Thanks.

Better. He's a CB.

I think Coleman/Sutton have played well but FFS we have horrible depth and especially speed with depth at CB.

We need Riyahd back as soon as he's not only medically 100% but also comfortable and in playing shape. That could be another month.

Wasn't he hand-picked by our coaches to be a starter at CB this year...why so negative...he was a top JUCO DB...

He's basically saying "we have horrible depth at CB." Playing walk-ons (Swafford has played well but he doesn't have SEC speed) against SEC WRs will be very rough. If he can come out and play Nickel soon, that would be an immediate boost.

Coleman and Sutton have both played well.

Glad he is back. But this is my thought as well.

Swafford is not a walkon.

He's not? This is from the article about the game on the Volnation homepage....

Freshman walk-on Devaun Swafford gave the Vols a 7-0 lead on a 62-yard interception return with 9:23 left in the first quarter. For Kingsport native, the huge play came in his first game as the Vols’ primary nickelback. It was also Tennessee’s first ‘Pick 6′ at The Swamp since another true freshman — Eric Berry — had one back in 2007.

Yes. He is a freshman.... and he's a walk-on

Swafford is not a walkon.

Acording to Butch Jones, Swafford is a walkon freshman. But I bet he has a scolly by next season. He doesn't have SEC speed right now but he will get a tic faster as he progresses. There are several DB's playing in the SEC right now that don't have "SEC speed". A few of them play for Alabama. Swafford is going to continue to make mistakes as well as make great plays throughout this year and next. Thats the way it is with most true freshman (well most true freshman never get on the field their first year). By the time Swafford is a Jr. everybody will be high fiveing him and nobody will remember he missed a tackle or two that went for a td. :good!:

Swafford was offered a grey shirt. He wanted to play this year, so he came in as a walk on. Kid has a lot of heart!

Swafford is a greyshirt if I remember correctly; while he is still paying his own way right now, he did not "walk-on" per say. I believe the concept is for him to be on scholarship next year.

Nickel CBs don't have to run 4.4 forties. Nickel CB is mostly about position and jamming the slot man at the line. Swafford will be in the 2 deep here for awhile until we build elite talent in our secondary. Jones is going to help a lot because because he has experience, but the overall out look for 2014 is looking better:

1st string:
CB: Coleman
FS: Randolph
SS: McNeil
CB: Sutton

2nd String:
CB: Formean
FS: TkJr
SS: McDow
CB: Jones

3rd String:
CB: Payne
FS: Arnold
SS: Lemond Johnson
CB: Gaulden

Nickle: Swafford/Toney

Great news. We can use all the depth we can get. I remember before he was out there was a video posted of him called fastest feet or something. He has extremely quick feet.

Also just wondering. Didn't I read about him having clotting issues and stuff like that? How did that get taken care of so fast?

He was a greyshirt, but decided to walkon so he could play right away. He was able to get financial help, and next year there will be room made for him, probably by letting someone go. I have a feeling a few players won't be here next year that are on our roster now, I don't want to mention names as I find that disrespectful when these guys strap on the power T everyday for us even if they aren't good enough to play here. It happens every year, but I think this year we may have a cleaning house party to make room for elite recruits in 2015 and 2016.

I'm really stoked to see this guy in action! And what better gm for him to come back to get back into playing action. Go Vols!

Xarelto, likely. My hematologist moved me from coumadin to it due to the lack of side effects as severe as those of coumadin, and it takes effect in one dose. Also, no need for weekly bloodwork to regulate it. 20mg and you're good to go. Just watch out for major head trauma

Go back and check the video of the game. You may change your mind.

I know your not talking to me but I'll chime in anyway. I watched the film on the first 3 games about 5 times each. Swafford made mistakes in all three games. He also did some good things. His mistakes are mistakes you would expect even a 5 star kid to make. It's part of learning a new system being in the ultra stressful SEC college game. His play on the ball on the pick six was textbook (some haters will say he was lucky). His coaching at defensive back in high school wasn't exactually top shelf. I say get off his back and let him learn. He's going to be at Tennessee 3 more years and he is going to make alot of plays for the Vols. Support him.

Major head trauma? Like the kind that occurs in literally every single SEC football game?
