Robert Hubbs SG TN '13

Sounds like there is countervailing material out there.

Hubbs probably doesn't want to go public with his top 2 yet. I'm sure he's still open, but nothing wrong with having a top 2, it can always change.

For a guy that plans on committing in the fall though, it's getting close to that point.

I'm just excited after one year and with the mess we were in that we are even in discussion for some of this talent looking our way. Pretty impressive when you think about it. It hurts coming up short in recruiting battles but we are clearly on the right track.

From all accounts I think he's the best player in the state, and still is somewhat underrated on the national scene.

I think King, Hubbs and JW3 are bottle-necked as best in-state, and they all play different positions, so it's hard to say which is better. Then Nichols and Johnson are probably the next tier.

Rankings for each, in order of Scout/Rivals/ESPN/247:

JW3- 18/24/16/36
King- 19/23/15/26
Hubbs- 21/11/88/12
Nichols- 58/43/30/27
Johnson- 32/45/54/45
Crawford- NR/86/NR/60

I'll throw ESPN out the window as there's hasn't been updated in awhile I'm pretty sure.

The site doesn't say, but I remember someone tweeting that it was updated recently (it contains J. Johnson, so it has to be within the last few months) and that's when I noticed where Hubbs was. Someone over there just wasn't impressed with Hubbs. It's an outlier for sure though, he should be higher.

I also think Crawford is better than the recognition he's getting. He could've helped himself and played EYBL too though.

I don't agree. UK is a great opportunity and one of the biggest stages you can be on in college but I don't think Hubbs would go to UK if they offered. They haven't been pushing for him and both Nichols and Hubbs strike me as 'building relationships is important' types of guys. I don't think he takes the Cal bait.

You are correct. I think there is one team that can really throw a wrench in Ut's quest for Hubbs and that is UK. If they offer all bets are off.

It's a bit late for UK to get involved, even for Cal.

I'd be more worried about Duke and the other SEC schools in his list.

Duke concerns me more than the others. They could easily get both Hubbs and Nichols.

This. I think they want to play together, that kind of eliminates Florida, and leaves duke. I feel we're fighting duke for both guys.

Then again they could go seperate ways and well never know.

Under normal circumstances I would say yes but, Hubbs came up on many peoples radar out of nowhere. He didn't receive early exposure that some of the other Top10 players did. I do agree that Hubbs probably has more character in his pinky toe that Cheatapari but, I do get quite a bit of info on this kid and to count on UK as being out of the sweepstakes may be a bad miscalculation. Cal's record with NBA talent has been impeccable in terms of draft stock.

I don't follow recruiting much but i take it this kid is a must get since his thread always at the top of Vol threads. When is he making his decision?
