Robert Hubbs

In some aspects he does remind me of Scotty. I say that cautiously because people will flip but he has a better motor. I hope he can translate it to college and provide some extra scoring for the team.

The overwhelming quality I noticed (and maybe you disagree) was how freakin' smooth he is. Always under control. Smooth stroke, handles, whatever you want. It just looks effortless. So in that respect, I see your comparison.

You can only do so much scouting from a game like that where no one plays defense, but I still liked what I saw.

Yeah I think he will be a good defender not going to say great until I actually see him and he'll be a freshman so mistakes will be made. I see him as a two or three year player unless he just blows up and has a crazy sophomore year.

Agreed. I mean the talent is there and he'll more than likely end up in the NBA at some point. He's not a one-and-done freak, but then again who is? What, like 4 guys maybe?

Sophomore year could be interesting because he could wind up in a position where he has to put the team on his back. Not a fair ask for anyone, particularly a sophomore.

I for one hope it doesn't come to that. Our fan base will crucify him every chance they get if he's THE MAN on the team. Build around him and we will have the team continuing upward

Couldn't agree more. That's why the development (THIS YEAR) of Josh, Thompson, Moore, and Davis (all of them), is absolutely crucial. Hubbs will be our best player in 2014. That's something no one will deny. But I, like you, don't want him in a position where he has to carry us.

Me either hopefully we can bring in 1out of the 2 in Lyle or Looney. I think we get Cofer. We just need more athletes.

Might be the best Freshman but over all.:eek:lol:

If Hubbs is the best player on the floor then its going to be a long year like NIT again, Hubbs is a good ball player but what i have seen he is no super star he is not lotto NBA.

I will remember you said that.
Baby Wade with a better jump shot watch.

The kid is an so unselfish and can do it all. Defend, score and rebound. He will be a future lottery pick.

Hubbs is just a great overall player. Great scorer, good passer, athletic, unselfish. He'll be a future lottery pick no doubt.

I wonder how many of those posting about Hubbs have actually seen him play in person? He is extremely good, but it is much too early to be calling him a "lottery pick".

He's a future lottery pick not this year maybe not even next but his skill set and ability to drive and slash will get him there. He has to get stronger and be able to work off other players. Potential is there tho

“First and foremost, the talent,” Martin said recently. “He’s one of the first guys I saw when I took the job. We went out in the spring and summer (of 2011) and identified him right away as a very talented guy. He played all over (the floor), played hard and he scored the basketball.

“He’s a tremendous athlete. You saw his length and his size, and you knew the potential … that if he kept doing what he was doing he had a chance to be special.”

“There’s a lot of athletes and there’s a lot of shooters,” Derek McCord said. “When you combine a shooter with tremendous athleticism that makes for a special player. When you have that you have the potential for greatness.”

“Coach Martin came on strong early, told us that Robert was the only shooting guard he was recruiting,” McCord said. “That meant a lot to Robert. Coach Martin got in early and developed a good relationship. I think Robert felt the right fit with them. It’s a program on the upswing, and I think he felt that excitement.”

“He’s got the ability to score, so that’s his role … to score the basketball,” Martin said. “I saw him get 45 points one time (against Trumann, Ark.) only playing two and one-half quarters.”

“Defensively, he just has to be at least respectable,” Martin said. “I told Robert Hubbs if he comes in and he passes up shots he’ll be sitting next to me on the bench. He’s built to score.”

“Defensively, he got a lot better,” McCord said. “And his ball-handling improved. He’s really good out of the pick and roll.”
