Rocky Top To Woo Or Not

To Woo Or Not To Woo

Could someone explain to me why they don't like the Woooo?

Some folks are always negative about and voice their dissent to what is going on. Makes them feel smarter.:)

If the WOOOOO is good enough for the Nature Boy, it should be good enough for everyone. WOOOOOOO

I'm sure anybody on here who has young children or grandchildren at Tennessee Games knows what I'm talking about.

Kids love the woo. When you grow up with the woo, it means something to you

I took my kids to their first game in Knoxville last year. They've grown up mostly rooting for uga since we live here, but they woo'd during Rocky Top and got into 3rd down for what.

If we win the NC game, I WILL Ric Flair woo and Fargo strut all night long. However I will refrain until my last breath from the "woo" while singing Rocky Top. It's just the kind of guy I am, you know, one that enjoys only females ... not that there's anything wrong with guys that woo and have more estrogen than their girlfriends and boyfriends.
What u know bout the Fargo strut..

Go on youtube, pull up the Osbornes singing Rocky Top. You'll not hear a "woo." The woo had to have been originated by a bunch of drunk chicks or guys that had more estrogen flowing through their lady parts than the drunk chicks ... not that there's anything wrong with that these days.

By that argument, there shouldn't be any "Go Vols!" yelled during "Immigrant Song" because Led Zeppelin didn't have it in there.

There are no words in the English language, of which I am aware, that begin to describe my disdain for the Woo. I cannot explain it nor do I want to. It's a deep and visceral hate almost as if it's programmed into the DNA.

The Woo is almost certainly responsible for global warming, world hunger and ISIS. The Woo kicks puppies and taunts the elderly.

Rocky Top song is tradition

Do we take away Davy Crockett's coonskin and have him wear a backward's cap?

Do we groom a cocker spaniel to be Smokey instead of a blue tick hound?

Do we replace a Tennessee walking horse with a Shetland pony?

right!?

Do we replace the leather helmet to some kinda plastic contraption with bars on it?

It's not tradition so get rid of it....and the checkerboards, running thru the T and the foward pass!

I used to not care for the woo. Didn't hate it or love it. Till my kids were old enough to go to games. Watching them get excited as the woo part drew near and "woo" and then quiet again until "woo" again. It was cute, they enjoyed it so now I like it.

Smokey's on the prowl absolutely sucked tho! That's why it didn't stick. There's a reason 100,000 fans scream woo till this day. It's a good thing and actually anything Vol related that gets the crowd loud and jacked up and pisses off our rivals is kinda puzzling to be the subject of such hatred.

And I'm a bluegrass guitar player that loves the original version and have sat in and played it about 9,472 times so far and I still love the "woo" and sometimes include it when we play.

I think the WOO sounds really stupid kinda takes away from the actual rocky top song

When I was your age, we didn't have "The Woo." We politely paused between between the "top" and "Rocky."

We didn't have every game on some "high definition" television. If we got two games a year on TV, we were LUCKY!

In my day, we didn't have a third down song. If you wanted to hear music, the BAND played music!

There were no chat forums and discussions and high-falutin' "analysts" around every corner.

We had our John Ward and Bill Anderson and tear-away jerseys, and WE LIKED IT!

they do the woo. and i like it that they do. so for that reason alone, it should stay.

I like it when the ladies in the crowd woo...

Not so much when the fellas do it though.

Not for me. I'm okay with a woo from a lady or a kid, but you gotta admit, it sounds a little gay when a grown man is yelling woo during rocky top at a football game. :focus:
