Lake Lanier is a man made lake. Stupid argument. Which btw GAVol, Lanier is getting the Forrest Woods Cup fishing tournament in August, the richest tournament in the world. They're gonna be dropping in right across the street from my parents house. Pretty weird

Not really. I said, it is a personal preference that I'm not much of a like person. To reiterate what ericpatterson1 said, its brown and muddy.

On topic: Looks like Rothlisberger could be in some deep crap.

Cops: Big Ben Accuser Was 'Hysterical' | TMZ.com

"We're told Ben's accuser arrived at the P.D. with three other women. According to a source at the police department, Ben's accuser was extremely emotional and looked like she had been crying for hours."

Someone making something up wouldn't have been crying for hours.

Per ESPN, Rothlisberger hired the attorney who defended Ray Lewis and got him off after the 2000 incident (the supposed stabbing of two people outside a nightclub)

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger hires high-profile Atlanta lawyer - ESPN

I think if Ben's hiring this guy, alot of this most likely has to be serious/real

I was thinking this too.

And Dan Patrick at least led off his program talking about this story. I think it is a serious story, and this guy really has some issues.

ESPN and ESPN.com are giving it a lot more press today as well. The lack of press over the weekend could be a result of it not coming out until mid afternoon friday, and the fact that it was in such a small town, as opposed to the Kobe situation which was in a major media outlet.

right, and well the degree of name of the players effects it too; to get Kobe-like press, it would have to happen to Tom Brady or someone else who's a big name nationwide, even to people who dont watch the sport regularly; Ben's just not that

#33
#33
again though; if he hired the Ray Lewis lawyer, then I think this has to be pretty real

even if this isn't true the guy clearly has some lack of judgement with the ladies.

agreed; i think Peter King makes a good point in his article today:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/peter_king/03/07/freeagency/3.html

I think we all have to be careful about rushing to judgment on Ben Roethlisberger after he was accused of sexual assault by a 20-year-old woman in Milledgeville, Ga., near where Roethlisberger has an offseason home. It's the second time in seven months that a charge of sexual assault against Roethlisberger has come to light, the first coming from a Nevada woman last July.

So without being judgmental ... if Roethlisberger is without fault, it still is utterly preposterous he puts himself in these situations. If Roethlisberger is without fault, he has to re-think who he associates with, and he has to re-think whether it's a very good idea to be hanging around college bars at 2 in the morning. If Roethlisberger is at fault, the issues are entirely different. If he's at fault, he has got to grow up. So we'll see.

Out of curiosity, just what type of forensic test do the police have to determine how long someone has been crying? Does the time line of when the incident was alleged to have occurred and when she appeared at the police station work?

If Ben cried while saying he was innocent, would that prove he was innocent? But then as it's been said here, being a millionaire who hires the top-notch attorney is a obvious admission of guilt. He should have searched out the most incompetent disbarred GA attorney as proof of his innocence.

unfortunately hiring the guy who defended/got Ray Lewis off - especially at this point, this early in the case - would be like a celebrity going out and hiring (were he still alive) Johnny Cochran

the fact that he's throwing a ton of money at the best lawyer he can get before anything has really even come out makes him quite suspect and has to; from the outside eye, it has to look like he's bracing for something pretty bad to come

Spin this for me then. It's been reported that the accuser has hired an attorney. Why would a victim beyond reproach and who's undeniably telling the truth need legal representation? And I suspect what Roethlisberger is paying his attorney is a much smaller percentage of his income than what this anonymous accuser is paying her lawyer.

Look, i'm sorry, but the more you're doing this, the more you keep looking like a steelers fan who feels he has to rush to big ben's defense; and i'm sorry to say that but you seem quite adament that he did nothing

Again, he got the best he could have gotten with a past history of getting NFL players out of sticky or bad situations. He has to have realized this when he got this guy. I'm confident he did his research. However in return that will make it be looked back upon in a bit of a questionable way - considering what this guy has represented and done before

He's smart, and as such he researched this guy and felt he best fit this type of case.

Everyone needs legal representation in court, especially criminal court

if not, they'd get eaten up alive by the other side's attorneys

you have to have someone to both represent you and who knows the system; going into court without that is a terrible idea in almost any case

But with this happening twice it could be he realizes the court of public opinion may already be turned against him.

Or it could just be that he knows the dude is good and he has the pennies to pay for it. Can't blame him for that.

that's true also; i think though with this already happening twice, we can't assume he did nothing either and just has a price on his head

it just strikes me odd that he'd go after this guy; he'd have to have researched him beforehand and know he's someone who has defended NFL players in court situations in serious trials

Though I should say it's not for us to decide what he did or didnt do; it's for the court

(also, that first trial is still on going i believe; though that was a claim of rape as well)

If it was no big deal, if he had done nothing at all, if he was completely innocent, he wouldnt have gone out and gotten the best guy like this, this early to boot. Believe me, this wasn't a simply look at the price tag, compare to his salary, and then said "it's no biggie for me." He's smart, and as such he researched this guy and felt he best fit this type of case.

And unfortunately also, hiring this guy, right now, means he's probably bracing for something. sorry, but 9 out of 10 times, it goes that way. He hired someone fairly high profile, meaning most likely he feels he will need someone that good for this, quite probably indicating something happened that night and this isnt just out of nowhere

disagree with all that. If you're going to criminal court for a bad offense (guilty or not) you hire the best your bank account will allow. His account is just bigger than most other people

yeah now that i look at that; i need to edit that alot; i kinda typed all that as string of thought or emotion rather than thinking it all through first, and i'm seeing a whole lot even i dont agree with right now

i'm bad about that

I think this second occasion is probably not a coincidence either.

But he's going to most likely be in court over this. He has a fat bank account, so go get the best available.

Take the time and read what I wrote. Where did I speak to Roethlisberger's innocence or guilt? I wrote not a word on that.

My point was statements such as the accuser cried therefore she's telling the truth or Ben hired an top flight attorney therefore he's guilty are simpleminded at best. As I recall the accuser in the Duke LAX case cried but I think it's been proven beyond a doubt she lied. And I think some of the accused players had pretty expensive representation but they were exonerated. That case kind shoots holes into crying=truthfulness and expensive attorney=guilty premise of yours and other posters.

Getting back to what I DID write and you ignored, why has the accuser hired an attorney? I'm dying to hear your rationalization for that.

.....i think i responded right below that saying, if you are going into court, you can't go in without someone to represent you or you will get eaten up alive; you need someone to represent you who knows how the system works

also I never said ben was definitely guilty; i just said that hiring the guy who defended Ray Lewis on murder does seem a bit...not odd, not the word i want just makes you wonder i guess - in the same way that another celebrity hiring johnny cochran would have made someone cock an eyebrow

I can see your point of view and don't really think it's that far off base.

My whole thing is he has the money to buy the best, so that's what he does.

And also, the court of public opinion has pretty much already considered him guilty. So the raising of the eyebrows is technically done by the people who already are ready to throw him in jail.

What does "serious/real" mean? To me that implied in your opinion he was guilty.

The Ray Lewis case was almost 16 years ago (As a Titan fan, you should be aware of how long ago that Super Bowl was). Has everyone that hired Ed Garland in the past decade and a half been under suspicion also because they employed the same person as Lewis?

I meant that I didnt think this wouldnt be going away as just a simple dropped/false accusation kind of thing; that it was looking like it was going to court; not simply just a thrown out at him b/c he was a name kind of thing

(also i'm pretty sure i dont count every year from 1999-2000 but ok, go right ahead; but i dont think that would be 16 years, just doing the math)
