I can hit the ball over the net, trying to serve is a joke(its harder than it looks).

No kidding!! You can probably find low cost group lessons through the City Parks & Recs Dept. Serving is a matter of developing a consistent grove of motion. Toss the ball high in exactly the same place (depending on type of serve), start your racquet from the same place and shift your weight from back to front foot at the same point in your swing which should be straight overhead. The exact way you start the swing is not so important, the consistency is. The main thing is repetition through practice. Take a basket of balls out and hit all four courts til you can't stand it anymore.

i didn't wake up in time for it, but it appears Sharapova had quite a first round struggle. Far different than how she cruised through every round of the Aussie.

Is there any TV other than ESPN's afternoon coverage and the Tennis Channel, which I don't think I currently get?

Heck, I can't even find a good online schedule to tell me who plays when. I *think* Ivanovic is playing right now, but it's hard to tell.

obviously not on tv, but it's the best site to keep up with games. It's typically not too far behind the live stats, although the other day, the Venus match was behind a whole set.

and Ana won in straight sets.

Why would you even try to resist that urge? She won today, after all. A celebratory image or two would be entirely appropriate.

Lo and behold, I do have the Tennis Channel after all. Last time I looked, I didn't. Good to know. Thanks for the schedules -- perhaps I'll actually get to see her play in her next match.

Excellent. My three-year-old just saw that picture and said, "Look! It's a picture of Mommy!"

Uh, not quite, son. Not quite.

That may be the most unflattering tennis dress in recent history. What's with that puffy crap at the bottom? She should lose that dress.....

:whistling:

OWH, you should be ashamed. Ana makes any dress flattering. Also since you did nothing to claim her in the Aussie Open thread, she was open. I claimed her, as did Vercin. I get her on days that end in Y, and he gets her all the other days.

I am too old, married, and broken down to even pretend that Ana would do anything except call security on me.

Jankovic and Venus easily cruised winning in two sets apiece. Amelie Mauresmo lost in straight sets as did Elena Dementieva. Maria is struggling in the second set and will finish tomorrow. Ana also plays her third round match tomorrow

Not really a surprise, but Blake lost early again. A bigger surprise to me is David Nalbandian losing today. David Ferrer absolutely cruised. He could cause some serious problems. Federer lost his first set, but turned it on to win the next three. Nadal and Davydenko didn't have many troubles either. Round 3 starts tomorrow and I think things should start to get more interesting.

Thanks. I'll keep an eye on it. Maybe I'll get to see some of it before I go -- now that I know I've got the Tennis Channel, at least.

Didn't get to see it because I couldn't get out of bed, but Serena went down today and Ana cruised. Ana was scheduled to meet Serena in the quarters, so her road to the final definitely just got easier. Maria dropped the second set, but rebounded nicely to win the third and take the match.

DirecTV has a package where you can watch all 5 courts individually or on one channel.
