Safina absolutely dominates, Ana looked a lot better and Sharapova battles through a win. Maria dominated the first set, got shellacked the second set and won the third 8-6. The women's side is going to be VERY fun to watch all summer long. We don't really have to worry about the men until the quarters.

Unlucky draw for Petrova. Playing Sharapova in the second round. Going to a third set now. Sharapova won the first comfortably, Petrova won the second comfortably.

Ana is smacking Tanasugarn down. She looks pretty sharp here.

Do you have DirecTV, Bill? This deal with 6 channels of the French Open sounds pretty nice. I have Comcast, which sucks. Even though we subscribe to Tennis Channel, it would still be nice to have a choice of what match to watch.

Acusoso manages to force a tiebreak, but Federer dominates 7-2 to take a 2 set to 1 lead. Gotta believe this one is over.

I wouldn't have bet on Fed winning that 3rd when he was down 5-1 but he sure pulled it out. Looks like a done deal now. Acasuso is all but packing his bags.

Roddick and Monfils are 3-3 against each other. Monfils has won both matches on clay though.

That is a cool feature Bill, but those matches were back in 06, and 07 and I'm sure Roddick has improved on clay since then(you could add more to that) so I'm hoping for the best.

Whats your thoughts on Verdasco? He's in the round to play Nadal, though he may have to get past Davydenko, do you think he could give Nadal another tough match. Then again Nadal owns everyone on clay.

well, Roddick didn't even play in the French last year and he's only made it to the 3rd round of the French once. Don't know that there's much more to compare them to. Except Monfils has seemingly gotten better over the past 5 years while Andy has been one giant rollercoaster his whole career, but is nowhere near as dominant as he was in 2003

if Verdasco can get to Nadal all he has to do is push him. I don't think Nadal has any of those marathon matches at the current time. Question is, will anybody be able to push him past say a fourth set?

I even see where Roddick has Federer in his bracket, great. I forgot Roddick didn't play in the French last year. I dont see Roddick getting far, who knows, Wimbledon isn't too far away.

I am excited to see what Roddick can bring to Wimbledon. I'd love to see him play well, semis or even get to the final and bring that momentum to Flushing Meadows. I just don't expect much from him here. I doubt he'll win, but he's the best chance America has at a men's major for probably 4-5 years IMO. And that's if Isner can make it.
