Roland Garros

I hope what few US tennis fans there are left understand the significance of Federer wiining. He can tie Sampras' record for career majors and do something Pete never did, win in Paris. It would be two key bullets on his resume for best of all time.

I will be rooting for Federer for that reason, he seems to be a pretty good guy.

there aren't many real tennis fans debating the best of all time. The real conversation is around Laver and Federer, without Sampras.

Sampras would be awesome at Wimbledon today, but wouldn't dominate on those slower courts. I feel his 8,000 Wimbledons is a bit misleading in the debate about best of all time.

I didn't mean to imply that Sampras was the greatest of all time, but Federer could cement his place over Laver by winning the French and winning at least one more to claim the most Grand Slams all by himself.

With Laver having the actual Grand Slam, it makes it tough for me to give the award to anyone who can't conquer majors on all three court surfaces. If Federer doesn't win another major And assuming he wins this weekend, I'm not sure who I would pick. If Federer fails to win the French, I think I'd still take Sampras over him because the talent in Sampras' era, especially his prime, was much tougher.

Think I'm gonna wait too..

But I wish I knew about that link two weeks ago..

Sorry, m8. I'd have been glad to furnish links but for most of it all you had to do was go to the tennis channel website for live match play. Today was a little trickier because of NBC. I'll be sure to post links for Wimbledon as I find them when the time comes.

NBC has now received an e-mail from me about their coverage, or lack thereof, of the Fed/Del Potro match. In this day and age, people will go elsewhere for their sports if they aren't going to show live action. I followed a link to twitter, a site I don't normally go to, and people are going off about it. There are a lot of people upset with NBC right now.

I was listening to espn radio this evening, I had no idea what was going on, instead they aired Days of Our Lives. What a joke!

if Safina blows this, she might be done forever. Once Jankovich, Ivanovich and Sharapova get healthy added to all top tier talent on it's way, Safina will never be able to match up mentally with the top players.

There's a reason Safina isn't hyped as the number one player in the world and it's on full display at the moment. I want to feel sorry for her, but honestly I don't see her as anywhere close to an elite player.

If there's ever such a thing as wanting it too much, this is one instance. I don't think Safina even slept last night. Should have been her match.

it should have been, but she just never looked comfortable. She plays finals with the mindset of "whatever you do, don't screw this up". And when you play any sport that way, all you do is screw up.

I wont get to watch the game tommorow, i have to work. I'll be checking on line. I wonder if it will go five sets.

Federer is one set away after dominating the second set tiebreak.

Soderling holds his serve, but Roger is serving for the set, match and most importantly, the career Grand Slam.

That was awesome seeing him win. Congrats, Roger. I agree with John. It's impossible to know for sure, but I believe Roger is the best of all time.
