very informative thread

Sorry. Forgot you don't watch actual news.

Cliffs: in interview criticized London prep for games. Not harshly by any means. But in London just idiocy to say anything negative about it.

Forgot name of official he met with.

Looked terrible, fake, stiff, walking around.

Mentioned secret meeting with head of MI 6. To the press.

He has been roundly mocked by British press, prime minister, and Mayor of London.

no I just figured you had more than that since you used "holy crap" with 3 exclamation points in your post. Should have known better

The fun thing is Cameron in response saying, well, it's tougher to run them in a busy place like London than in the middle of nowhere. And now Utah officials bristling at that.

so even though there are serious security concerns Romney shouldn't mention them? I mean, it's not like there will be American citizens at risk or anything

Like its never been held in a busy place.

Romney is just keepin it real. We need a president who is honest and doesn't cow tow to everyone unlike the current spineless loser in the white house

All of his critisms were legit. It's ok for every newspaper to report on them but if Romney says something OMG heads explode

Well, looks like Romney has lost the vital British vote.

Had it been Obama that made these missteps you'd be incredulous at the amateurism.

I personally don't think his comments are a big deal, either. It's the remarkable awkwardness of the whole thing, and especially how Romney just can't seem to relate to anyone that is the news here, IMO

they are exactly the things Obama has been doing for years now. For you to make any deal at all is pretty hypocritical

most of Obama's "missteps" have been laughed off on here too (like 57 states, seeing dead veterans, etc)

Yes had it been Obama it would have been incredulous because he has no experience in helping bringing an Olympic games to fruition Romney on the other hand has that experience and does know what it takes.

Foxnews would be all over this if Obama said something similar and a lot of posters on here would be on him, too. Bottom line is, Romney said what a lot of think. We've all heard the threats and with American lives over there and it's understandable Romney would say something.

Romney showed he is not ready for prime time. He did not have the one gaffe , he had 3.

1. Brian Williams throwed him a softball question. All Romney had to say was something like .. London is a beautiful city, I am sure this will be a great Olympics..... Instead he insults them.

2. Britain allows him to have "secret meeting " with Sir John Sawyers the head of MI 6 and he announces it to the press.

3. Romney appeared to forget*Labour*leader Ed Miliband's*name in a press conference.

Romney is, for all intents and purposes, a private citizen who happens to be running for President. Who gives a damn that he met with the head of MI6? What could they discuss that Romney would be cleared for at this time?

Regarding the Olympics and the issues that have come up, why not mention them? It's not like Romney said, "jeez, these stupid limey bastards couldn't plan a Bar Mitzvah if Jesus himself was coming of age".

The Jesus quote is hilarious! Never heard that one.

what's the story here? Romney reiterated concerns that the worldwide press was
expressing as late as this past weekend about the challenges London was facing.

we criticize politicians for not being honest and not speaking their minds, yet when/if they do we criticize them for being insulting.

You make a good point here, I think. As I say, its less about being right or wrong and more about his lack of poise. In all the video I've seen of him just even walking around over there he looks dazed and extremely self-conscious. And that's even before the flap.

As to the comment, its sort of like planning a party with your spouse. You argue over the details amongst yourselves, get it set, and then open the door. If your buddy walks in and makes a snide remark about it, its going to piss you off.
