Ron Paul Can't Win

Have you forgotten what happened on 9/11/2001?

North Korea has been working hard at perfecting missiles that can reach across the Pacific.

China has been showing off their weapons that can zip right over the North Pole and rain down on North America.

Isolationism was a different concept when sailing across oceans for weeks and months was required to bring destruction to the mainland.

No, I did not. Now what does that have to do with a full scale war? 911 was nothing more than a well organized kamikaze attack, not a long term war strategy.

Why would China and North Korea attack us? [Taiwan and South Korea]

And even in your fears, you mentioned having to go over the North Pole and Pacific.

No one is preaching or advancing isolationism.

The threats are real and can come from anywhere. It's not the 1940s and the oceans don't provide the protective barriers that they once did. Interfering with the economic growth and military advancement if our enemies is a souls policy and doesn't necessarily require putting lives at risk with boots on the ground anymore. Space Force is a good direction to take. Our navy patrolling every corner of the planet is as well.

Our navy patrolling the seas is expensive, unnecessary and untenable.

And launching a missile or performing kamikaze attacks is not a sustainable or long term strategy for any entity.

Do you think it's time to have a discussion about reducing the scope of the military yet?

Do we have a more urgent need to go after foreign threats or to domestic threats to our freedoms?

One could argue the “domestic threats to our freedoms” are in control of the military.

I think with solid leadership real threats from these so called "domestic threats" largely go away.

As long as there are threats line China and Russia out there we must have a robust military.

So no, you're not ready to have a serious conversation. Just more China/Russia fear porn.

So you don't believe a large military presence is required to counter another large military presence? They are threats, the extent can be debated but if you can't admit a large military is a possible threat you're correct one of us isn't ready to have a serious conversation... Just wrong about which one of us it is. No fear porn needed, though admittedly some beat that drum harder than it needs to be.

As long as we are not being provocative in Asia and Eastern Europe, Russia and China pose no threats to us and vice versa.

Provocative in what way? Allowing China to be provocative and showing deference? Russia making runs at our military bases on American soil before pulling off at alarming distance? The latter I know happens multiple times a year from sometime who was stationed at a base.

Sounds like a sound short term plan but a line has to be drawn. They are being intentionally provocative, to return the favor with anything less only emboldens them.

Bottom line they are threats, the degree can be debated but threats nonetheless.

As long as we are placing military assets in former Warsaw Pact nations, then we are being provocative. As long as we continue to meddle in South China Sea politics, then we are being provocative towards China.

It really isn't that hard to understand.

This sounds all too familiar, weren't some of the same things said about Japan and Germany in the years/decades leading up to WWII?

Germany would have never been the version of Germany we saw in 1933 had it not been for the Treaty of Versailles. But besides that, UK, France and Russia should have been able to handle them without our assistance.

Japan posed no threat to anything related to the US until we embargoed oil sales to them. In Asia, the only threats that Japan was making before December 7, 1941 were towards British and French assets in the Far East and China. The Philippines didn't come into play until after Pearl Harbor.

Lastly, how many more trillions of dollars, blood and treasure are we going to continue to waste trying to be the big bad policeman on the block?

Yes, North Korea is SOMEWHAT of a threat militarily, but hey, their dictator likes Trump. At least the Donald has proudly claimed, so we shouldn't be worried about a preemptive strike from them.
