Ron Paul

He seems to be gaining some steam.
The Ron Paul Revolution - Yahoo! News
He is getting to where he could run as a 3rd party candidate and that in my opinion would end the presidential possibilities for the gop. I could see him getting 10-12 % of the vote ((if he can get some fundraising going)) as fedup as most people seem to be with politics as usual.

and from your posts, I can honestly (ahem, ahem) say that your opinion is completely objective.

Doubt there will be any room for a 3rd party candidate once Michael Bloomberg gets going.

Heard Paul talk tonight on CNN....I enjoy a lot of what he says but then I hear him talk about his so-called tax plans and shake my head....it is just not plausible at all...well, at least in my very uninformed tax opinion

That's usually where things break down with Ron Paul. He does well talking about big concepts, but the devil is in the detatils.

I think the country is ready for someone who is trying to think outside the box.

he still suffers from a recognition problem, i think as people become familiar with him, he will continue to gain support.

I think Ron Paul would get government spending under control while the other leading candidates (for both parties) will continue to borrow more and trash our currency. We will become Argentina pretty soon unless someone acts quickly!

:salute:

for what it's worth, I have nothing against Argentinians it's just a good example of what happens in a currency collapse.

It's November. I think he's running out of time, unfortunately, primaries are about 90 days away. :cray:

My problem with Paul is that he has big ideas that often make sense, but when he starts talking about implementation things sort of fall apart and he comes off as a nut.

"big ideas"? Like follow the constitution? Maintain the Bill of Rights? I think if you find some of the longer videos of him you will find there is a lot of good ideas about his implementation.

Following the Constitution and maintaining the Bill of Rights are fine and dandy but the interpretation of what that means becomes less clear.

We know from history that the Constitution is interpreted. What the courts have ruled as Constitutional, others others consider unconstitutional.

Paul's ideas have a "consequences be damned" perspective. He has an interpretation of the Constitution and prior actions (eg. foreign policy)falling outside that view are to be changed completely under his view.

The level of withdrawal from international affairs he advocates might work if we were never involved the way we are now. But his solution of cutting those ties abruptly could cause tremendous repurcussions.

This is just one example of why some think his ideas sound good in theory but are weak or unrealistic in practice.
