I imagine he makes good money off of book deals, but what does that have to do with getting out of congress before taxes are raised?

The taxes are simply the straw that broke the camels back really. He's tried hard over the years but he's realized he's not really accepted by the majority of american voters. Paul said a lot of things people wanted to hear over the years but at the same time he was saying a lot of things most people drop their jaws at. He came to the realization that not only is he working with a worthless congress but he was never going to win POTUS so getting out before the taxes are raised is just a great idea.

I’m still amazed he was able to keep a seat in Congress. If there is one thing voters hate, it’s an honest politician (he might be the only one) running on Constitutional principles.
