Roster reset and overview

Going back in time... I think this was the main rotation in 2018-19 season:

1. BONE/TURNER
2. TURNER/BOWDEN
3. SCHOFIELD/BOWDEN
4. WILLIAMS/SCHOFIELD/PONS
5. ALEXANDER/FULKY/WALKER

Looking at this template I can see this:
1. ZZ/SANTI
2. SANTI/MASHACK
3.KNECHT/MASHACK
4.LEDLUM/KNECHT/JEFFERSON
5.AIDOO/AWAKA/ESTRELLA

I think Carr and C.Phillips redshirts. Dilione will be a factor running the point but I think Santi runs it also.
No Dillone? Rough

If Edwards is playing any meaningful minutes on this team we likely are in for a long, injury filled season.
Why so sir? Are you saying he is going to injure people? Are you saying he is a bad player? It's not like we have tons of options at PG There is basically ZZ Santi and everyone else is either a CG like Edwards but he at least has a year in the system. I personally have a good amount of faith in this staff's ability to develop players. I feel like if Edwards does not hit the portal it means he's progressing.

No need to be a smartass. It’s been pretty widely publicized that Dillone will be the other main option at PG and Edwards has been working at the 2 spot in practice. Edwards looked awful at point when he played last season. If he gets on the court, it will almost certainly be at guard, where’s there’s not many minutes available between Santi, Dillone, Shack.

Do you think Estrella would be okay with not being in rotation, just inquiring these young men these days want to play redshirting is like slapping them it seems anymore
That is certainly a negative when it comes to the transfer portal. The incoming freshmen, for the most part, know which players will be returning and moving on. Players usually go where they have a chance to play and then teams look to the portal for immediate help. I would assume it would be frustrating as an incoming freshman.

Not sure where the smart ass came from. I tend to try to be respectful to all when I post. I asked an honest question. You literally just came out of nowhere with a fairly wild statement that if Edwards played meaningful minutes we'd have an injury-filled season. I merely asked for clarification on why you thought so. Edwards we have seen the play. Dillone we have not. Edwards has been in the system a full season Dillone has not. Barnes's staff is known to be good at developing players. Widely publicized Dillone would be the other main option at PG by who? I haven't seen any statements from coaches to that effect. I have heard no smoke about Edwards transferring. I am not saying there has been none im saying to this point I've not noticed any smoke on that front and one would think if what you are saying is true Edwards would be in the portal ASAP.

We have plenty of need at PG. 2 guard/wing is probably the most stacked position we have. Basically in a Barnes Offense, there is PG, Post and everyone else is wings.

You asked me if I thought BJE was going to injure people. If you’re gonna be a smartass, at least own it.

Just because you haven’t read it doesn’t mean it’s not true. I never said anything about him transferring - I personally hope he doesn’t. But he’s not going to get a wealth of minutes on this roster unless he becomes a completely different player and stuns literally everyone. Also, FD will have been on this roster almost 11 months when the season starts. It’s not like BJE has some massive edge in experience over him.

Last year average minutes per game who played the PG position majority of times. I'm not including Mashack because he was forced to play more minutes he usually would.
SANTI - 32
ZZ - 29
KEY - 24

After ZZ, the minutes you can give to a PG position is 11.
I can't see Dilione getting a full 12 based on experience.
Let's say SANTI gets 6 and Dilione gets 5.

The minutes might increase for Dilione, but I think that's a safe number. Especially if he's not a true PG.
Also, in order for these other players to get minutes at the 2 spot, Santi is either off the bench or moved to the PG spot. I think w/ Santi at the 1, it will create more space for the other guards.

I asked you to clarify your post.. it could be inferred from your statement that you thought him playing would mean lots of people would get injured or he would only play if people got injured.. you did not clarify one way or the other which you meant and one could assume but it's best to seek clarification. Is not seeing context and clarification a noble act? Or in fact, do we now live in a world where everyone should just take a wild guess and run with their own interpretation?

Thank you for clarifying your stance and may the rest of your weekend be outstanding good sir.

In what world has that ever been the case for a single player here?

No offense, but I think everyone understood the expectation was if BJE is playing lots of minutes next year it'll be because the guards ahead of him have suffered injuries.

Would y’all say it’s accurate that Mashack can adequately fill the JJJ void and maybe play some small ball 4-spot? He was playing almost as well as JJJ down the stretch imo. Even has a knack for the midrange

If Mashack is playing 4 that’s beyond small ball

How much taller and stronger do you think JJJ is than Mashack? Not to even mention explosiveness as a leaper? I do not think we want to spend much time with him at the 4. And there will be certain opponents that it would not work against. He can defend a 4 in the paint with as much success as JJJ did, IMO. And he can rebound the paint as well also.

He played it last year, he’s definitely capable of it in most matchups.

I would say at least 2-3 inches and JJJ is built like a tank. It would definitely work better against some of the guard heavy teams we’ve struggled with in the tournament than in SEC play, IMO. Maybe I am old fashioned but I don’t like having four guys on the floor under 6’4” but I guess if you have bigger guards like Knecht that makes up for some of it

What I saw from Mashack late was his ability to go hard inside the paint from the key. Vescovi or JJJ aren't quick and powerful at doing this. Mashack showed quickness in doing it and finishing at the rim or getting fouled. If he develops his perimeter game (3 point shot) with his mid range game flourishing this kid will be awesome.

I think you misread his post. I didn't take it as him being a smart ass.... Unconventional wording could easily have thrown off the meaning.

I think we are going to see so many combinations of players on the court it is going to be hard to figure out whether or not we are playing small ball or not. CRBs will have so many options available to him and the depth along with the experience to make it happen.

Yep. And develop the handle just a little bit more (it’s already improved) and he could be a star.
