Adding where the portal additions transferred from would be good information. And to a lesser degree - where the transfers out landed.

All this could be good or bad. Barnes did pretty good last year. With lift of E8 exposure, I'd say we're gonna be pretty salty again. Don't like roster turnover, but if we can upgrade, we've got opportunity to maintain this past year level. Think w/ existing players, if they all stayed, we'd have had a harder time maintaining high level success b/c less portal slots...we'll see.
I think upgrading overall will be tough given what we lost. But if we can bolster the post and get timely replacement for what we lost we can be contenders. JJJ and Santi had very underappreciated contributions to this season. Their stepping back allowed Aidoo develop offensively and Knecht to thrive. JJJ had his best year as a shooter and his most games played by far. Santi showed up in ways that were not necessarily obvious in the boxscore.

I’m not really putting much thought/effort into it, it’s more just a way to organize the list a bit and maybe show where we are thinner/deeper or have needs still.

I would say…

PG: Zakai Zeigler/Bishop Boswell
SG: Chaz Lanier/Jordan Gainey
SF: Jahmai Mashack/Cameron Carr
PF: Darlinston Dubar/Igor Milicic
C: Felix Okpara/JP Estrella/Cade Phillips
So now that this is a reality, do you still think Igor comes off the bench? I guess it would have to be him or Dubar

This depth reminds me of the 2021/2022 Kennedy Chandler year depth wise. Team will be deep and have plenty of options.

Anybody else see similarities between our roster and the Mavs this year?

Mashak - Jones Jr (do everything defensive specialist)
zz - Kyrie (smaller guard with a great handle and a good shot)
Igor - Washington (athletic power forward who rebounds well and hits from the outside)
Okpara - Lively/Gafford (lob threat and defensive anchor)
Dubar - Luka (this is a stretch, but he’s a big wing with a diverse skill set)

I think you swap Igar and Dubar w/ Dubar being the first off the bench .. only because he can play anywhere from 2-4 and you could slide Igor even to the 5 if you wanna get crazy

I’m curious where Cade Phillips gets most of his minutes. I’m thinking he has to play more of the 4 just because of the 2 senior to 1 sophomore ratio VS the 1 junior/1 sophomore to 1 sophomore ratio. If he’s developed as a 5 guy I see him transferring out.

I think the question is "when" CP gets his minutes... and I think the answer is in November/early December. Nothing against CP, but he's a depth piece at this point.

Lol, Vol fans will compare just any old guy in Orange to Hall of Famers.

Dubar is most definitely not Luka Doncic. Calling it a “stretch” is maybe the greatest understatement I’ve ever seen. This team is like hundreds of others of teams before them that have a good point guard (who is nothing like Kyrie whatsoever), some options on the wing, and a big man who catches lobs and protects the rim.

It’s comparing the roster construction (roles) not the players. Roster construction influences style of play.

Dubar isn’t playing the Luka role
He won’t be doing much facilitating. He will probably do some punishing mismatches to either take advantage of a big who isn’t comfortable guarding him outside or a smaller player in the post.

He’s obviously not Luka so that role won’t be the same but also not going against NBA defenses either so it takes less to find a mismatch and he seems like someone who other teams may struggle to match up with without compromising elsewhere.

It's kinda wild we still have 2 scholarships just sitting out there. I can see leaving one open but we badly need depth in the post. wonder what the deal is

Maybe there’s nobody immediately available that adds something that they don’t already have. They might be focused on a player or two that isn’t immediately available. I’d think that at least one more scholarship is used before the season starts. ZZ was a late addition. Vescovi was added to the roster after the fall semester.

But yes. It is kind of wild after recent rosters have been loaded with viable options at all 13 spots.

I wonder how often players will redshirt going forward.
