Roster tracker (updated 5/28)

Maybe there’s nobody immediately available that adds something that they don’t already have. They might be focused on a player or two that isn’t immediately available. I’d think that at least one more scholarship is used before the season starts. ZZ was a late addition. Vescovi was added to the roster after the fall semester.

But yes. It is kind of wild after recent rosters have been loaded with viable options at all 13 spots.

I wonder how often players will redshirt going forward.
Yup its something I mentioned a few weeks ago... how this staff tends to hold onto one spot for a late addition. But the fact we have 2 is what I found interesting. I am pretty sure they have their target(s) locked in. I am just curious who those spots turn into. There are still a ton of guys in the portal uncommitted. There are probably a few high schoolers that could reclassify and international players that could get scooped up. I saw a few 4 star centers and power forwards still sitting in the portal today.

I think, to some extent highly rated players redshirting is going to be a lot more rare not just in basketball but in football also. You are also gonna see a lot of highly rated guys going to smaller schools knowing they can rack up stats and cash in there easier than waiting for playtime.

Maybe it’s managing NIL budgets as well. I have no idea if everybody on a 13 scholarship roster gets paid.

NIL is going to get crazy. I predict that within 10-15 years student athletes won’t exist. Players will not have classes. Or at least there will be a few non-students on rosters.

Not going to get the toothpaste back into the tubes.

With the new rules everyone on scholly will get paid at least in P5 schools

from the article 'Sources said the parties also have agreed to a revenue-sharing plan allowing each school to share up to roughly $20 million per year with its athletes.'

Now we know most of that money will go to football and men's basketball. But it still works out to a decent chunk of change split out. I know its probably a bit higher but lets say 200 scholarship athletes per school football, baseball and men's and women basketball total 143 men and women track together is another 30.6 (weirdly men's track gets 12.6). If you average that out to 100k per year per head that's about 17.5 mil to split between those sports.... and you have 2.5mil to split between all the other imaginary sports they have.

100k a year is way more than the average scholarship athlete makes in NIL money even most of the ones you think are making big money. This is on top of NIL money.

I do wonder how an NIL deal can affect redshirting a player vs forcing a player to play because a school doesn’t want wasted money to happen. Let’s say someone signs a 3 million deal and he stays on 1 redshirt year, and only plays 2 more before opting into pros. That’s like 1.5 M a year instead of 1 M a year.

Outside of maybe a QB a player signing a 7 figure NIL deal will not be redshirting and even then that will be a rare occasion. Companies are not paying bench players to advertise for them. Unless they are like into selling lumber, maybe Gatorade (waterboy) or That restaurant benchwarmers.

Sorry I forgot to add the 3 mil part.... I meant a player signing a 7 figure NIL deal. The only case I am aware of that's happened like that so far was Arch and that was in like that first wave and very specific circumstances.

I take it the staff didn’t identify anyone late at the Peach Jam or elsewhere, so the roster is likely set.
depending on when this new change with roster sizes goes into effect we might have 4 open spots instead of 1.

nvm its for the 25-26 season so next year
