I think scoring margin was mentioned at the bottom in comments and how to get around it. They are touting their BPI system, but there are a lot of other articles out there on the subject that don't.
I've always thought the system was flawed because of all the low mid majors that rise to the top because they beat a lot of nobodies. We're penalized because we play 10 ranked teams every year. Somethings wrong with it.
I mean take a look at some of the teams that are ahead of us and better teams behind us.
Some of those same anomalies occur in all ranking systems. Just look on Kenpom at the 10 teams in front of UT. Also, if ESPN was really putting their BPI out there for the betterment of basketball, they wouldn't put it on the premium part of their site.
That's how I feel.
Stomping miss st would be a nice statement. Them losing to uga and us stomping uga would be even better.
I'm rooting for UF tomorrow.
And both of these guys are ESPN employees promoting the BPI. I cant take any ESPN employee seriously because they all have a company drivrn agenda
Also. All those other systems measure winning margin which the RPI does not. And the minute they start using a tool that measures scoring margin as part of a teams resume then things are going to get pretty ugly. And ironically invalidate the data itself. To make an analogy, a placebo only works if you don't tell the patient. The minute he knows it's a placebo the effect is lost. Same thing with scoring margins ( one of the more tauted of the "strengths" of non-RPI). Once they start to matter, coaches will try to manipulate them, thus invalidating the value, but leaving us with some unfortunate smaller school teams getting 100+ point beat downs in an attempt to pad resumes
