Well, I surely hope not. To really be successful, we need Jordan to play like everyone thinks that he can. I've never been a McBee fan. His spot up 3's improved last year, but he can not shoot if moving with the ball. He can not create his own shot, and defensively he is a liability. He may hustle, but I'd rather take the tallent. I think it was more Jordan not living up to CCM expectations and willing to play defense, than McBee holding onto the starting spot and not giving it back.
Where do you get that defensively McBee is a liability? During many of last years games the announcers went on and on about how good an off-ball defender McBee had become. I think many people have just decided that McBee is a liability and simply refuse to change their minds. He does have a difficult time staying in front of quick guards but that is why he plays the SG not the PG. And he is not the only player on this team that has a hard time staying in front of guys, just the one that takes the most grief for it.
As for not being about to shoot while moving with the ball, I probably agree with you there, but that is not his roll on this team. In all honesty, if McRae would shoot LESS while moving with the ball he probably would have played more last year than McBee. It was McRae's inability to discern between a good shot and a bad one that limited his playing time more than anything else. This teams strength is going to be its post play and McBee's game lends to that strength. If McRae could play 32 minutes a game and be happy with only 5-7 shots a game then I would agree with you that he would get the majority of the minutes. However, in Jordan's time here, he has done nothing to prove that he is willing to take that role.

McRae's attitude and not willing to play defense is what lost him his starting job.
McBee's bb iq is top notch and knows where he needs to be on defense. He does play hard, hustles, and announcers usually do give credit for that. Majority of the time, athletically he is not as good as who he is defending and he's definitely not as quick, fast, what ever you might want to call it. It is way too easy for our opponent's 2 guard to get open.
There is a reason that MAJORITY of the people are not McBee fans. He's just not that good. How many fans do you think he would have if he was from say GA or FL. Kind of debateable if he would even be on scholarship if he was.
McRae on the otherhand has the ability to be a All SEC calibre type player. The previous staff said that he has NBA tallent and CCM has also said that. You don't want someone on your team with this kind of ability sitting behind a Skylar McBee.
McBee constantly would get beat off the dribble and would get abused. Just because the announcers say something doesn't mean jack to me.
However, there were times last year he really showed he could knock down the 3. I really think it's his job to lose.
I just don't get why the MAJORITY of people are not McBEE fans. I guess we will agree to disagree, but I still say he gets more minutes than most people expect. As for ability, McRae has shown he is an athletic talent, but that doesn't always translate into basketball success. People get to caught up in a kid that can jump out of the gym and think that equals basketball skill. Until Jordan can play within the offense his minutes will be limited.
Racist much?
It's true though. I see people every year at RTL and home games that don't cheer for anyone but Pearl or McBee.
McBee WAS a big time liability. He has improved pretty well, but still sometimes gets burned on defense, and we all know his shot can just completely disappear. It's give and take with him.
I will give him all the credit in the world for improving his game. It's a lot better to not be constantly frustrated at him anymore.
This is the part I don't get. The kid was a walk-on that played sparingly as a Freshman and Sophomore and then only because of depth issues. His Junior year is a rebuilding year, he earns his playing time and people act like somehow his career has been disappointing. I really just don't get it.
I will give him credit. He has improved his shot last year. Still, I would much rather have a more talented guard playing his position. IMO when he was given a scholly, he didn't deserve it. It was the local kid in the spot light and of course Bruce took advantage of it. I'd much rather we have Steele from Bearden than McBee if we want to have a glorified local kid on the team.
Here's the thing, Mcbee starting and holding it down last year wasn't as much a result of his play, as it was jordy. If jordy committed to defense in the off season he'd have been in a much better position, unfortunately he waited until half way through the season when he played 8 minutes one game to act like he cared. From that point his minutes increase steadily and his play became much better and he even started to show some consistency. So I expect him to carry that into this years off season and devote himself to improving in that area.
As far as why people are high on him, it isn't just athletic ability. I know this isn't te best comparison, but if you'd watch a RTL game you'd see some of what others see. He scores at will, and while the defense isn't a priority, he shows the ability to put the ball in the hole in a variety of ways. He had Richardson on him last night, and Richardson was trying, and McRae was abusing him on te offensive end. Maybe he's more of an ISO 1 on 1 guy, but if he can figure that out in our system he can be very special.
I don't hate skylar, I'm just a realistic person, I actually like skylar and have gotten the chance to hang out with him a few times and hes a great kid. However, that doesn't mean he should start and play 30 minutes for a SEC school trying to win the SEC. He is limited in his abilities and nobody can argue that, the one thing he has over guys like jordy is his hustle and grit, something CCM loves. If jordy would play with near the same fire and commitment that skylar does, it wouldn't even be a battle at the 2 spot IMO. So the question becomes does jordy find that fire and commitment this off season, IMO I think he does.
Now as far as Q, correct hell probably play the 3, but I could definitely see him getting minutes at the 2, while big he's also very physical and quick and could guard a 2 if need be IMO. His leaping ability and rebounding were both very impressive, and when you couple that with the deep range shoring stroke he displayed its hard to imagine skylar beating him out. Q played with the same fire and heart on both ends that skylar does, yet has the athletic ability a bigger body to go along with it. Also, I've been in the minority but, I expect solid things from Edwards. Maybe not starting, but I expect a good 15 minutes a game from him, and for him to be solid on both ends.
Let me finish by saying, it's unfortunate jeronnes off season has been spent rehabbing and not expanding his game. If somehow he could've expanded his game to where he could see good minutes at the 2, that'd have helped. Kenny looks like he's primed to show what he flashed as a freshman, and reportedly is 10-15 pounds heavier than last year. It's going to be hard, and unfortunate, to strap Kenny to the bench and only play him 20 minutes a game.
While I agree with most of what you say, the last 5 games of last year, statistically were some of his worst. That's why I am not high on him this year. He was dropping off at the end of last year not improving. Maybe he hit a wall since it was his first year of significant minutes but I can only go off what I saw and at the end of last year, McBee outplayed Jordan.
As for the RTL, it's about 1on 1 and very little team defense. Hasn't Cam averaged like 30+ points over all his RTL games? That never translated to SEC success. I have no doubt that Jordan can get by the 1st guy, it's the decisions he makes after that which are the problem.
