and he was all like "oh really?"

so take that for what it is

I am going to apologize in advance for not keeping up with this thread, but with the baby (see avatar), I don't have time to go through all 45 pages. Can someone summarize what happened with this? Thanks so much.

Given my connection to UT, (sidewalk redneck alum) or something like that, I must admit that winning @ the current cost is OK by me. I understand what side of your "fence" that puts me on.

I don't understand the train of thought where Pearl is the only coach who could win here at Tennessee.

To each his own.

Like you, I believe that winning is critically important, but not supremely so.

Somebody posted a rumor and people lost their minds.

Losing your institutional integrity for sports wins is never the correct decision.

A) the lying was a mistake. I'm willing to give him a mulligan on that.
B) The infractions are hardly a sign of "lack of institutional integrity". If so, you may need to send 350 letters out to every school and let them know they are no longer an institution of integrity, and should cease existance. Using an AA rule as a gauge of integrity? Are you serious homie?

Who said I used the regulations as a standard to gauge integrity....besides you......in this post?

You are willing to give him a mulligan on the lying.

Others, including myself, are not.

Pearl's a liar and a cheater in both his personal and professional lives. I can't believe you would insinuate that indicates a lack of integrity.

I don't know, maybe the DECADES of irrelevance coming to a screaching hault under his guidance has something to do with that there train.

1. Look around the basketball coaching landscape.

2. Pick the 10 coaches you'd like to have, should Pearl be replaced.

3. See if $2M per year would get it done.

4. Realize that there are more choices than "Pearl" and "Abstract Obscurity".

There where coaches out there before Pearl. Dickey just refused to go after them.

Not u, other dudes post, saying that sacrificing institutional integrity for sports wins is always the wrong decision. I was pointing out that we are far from those accusations. (@ least right now, with what we know) They self imposed for goodness' sake. Whether DamControl or not, they did it.

Great. Now I'm going to have Wade Houston over Tim Floyd and Rick Majerus, Jerry Green over Bill Self, and Buzz Peterson over Gregg Marshall and Mike Anderson in my head all day.

I liked Charles McCrae's comment on the Sunday radio show following the Pearl's apology. "I would never do business with a man that cheats on his wife".

Gregg Marshall

Speaking of, I don't see how he doesn't have a job at a larger school by now. I mean, he's doing well in the MVC(a well established basketball conference) but his record should have him in a BCS conference. Just my opinion.

PS - Why did you say you think Marshall would walk from Wichita to Knoxville to take this job?

There's something to be said for that line of thinking.
