This is originally from Scout but if you search the post content, you'll see that it's spread across several boards. I don't know where this is coming from. A couple of recruits mentioned running out of the tunnel and a simulated press conference, but that isn't against any NCAA rules that I'm aware of. I haven't heard ANYTHING about recruits names on the backs on jerseys that's likely BS - everyone knows you can't do that. Anyway here's the post and tell me what you think or what you're hearing. Again likely BS but worth noting that this is what people are saying about us (chicken-s*** fans)

Hey guys, just wanted to pass along some info...I just heard from a good source that the University of Tennessee has been caught in the act of committing some major recruiting violations.

The allegations are that they simulated a 'game day experience' with recruits, which for those of you that know recruiting, it is not only a big no-no, but a MAJOR VIOLATION. The recruits had on Tennessee jerseys with their names on the back (violation #1) and ran through the tunnel with smoke flaring (violation #2) and the introduction on the video screen (Violation #3).

Interestingly enough, Washington was just found guilty as well this week for a similar event. It is interesting to note that both programs are now coached by former USC assistants, which makes you wonder what USC is doing behind the scenes.

Speculation is that at least one player's eligibility (Tennessee player) may be in question now as a result of this. Stay tuned...

wtf-ever...I know they didn't have jerseys on and I know they didn't run out on the field through smoke....we don't even use smoke. Kiffin knows the rules...i.e. Mitch Browning...and I seriously doubt that this is anything...sounds to me it's just a poster that is trying to make nothing into something.

I dont see this holding any cred.
Just doesent sound like UT.
If it did happen dont you believe we would have more recruits commited than we do?
Sounds like a UF or Bama fan making controversy...

Here's the NCAA rule:

13.6.7.9 Activities. An institution may not arrange miscellaneous, personalized recruiting aids (e.g., personalized jerseys, personalized audio/video scoreboard presentations) and may not permit a prospective student-athlete to engage in any game-day simulations (e.g., running onto the field with the team during pre-game introductions) during an official visit. Personalized recruiting aids include any decorative items and special additions to any location the prospective student-athlete will visit (e.g., hotel room, locker room, coach’s office, conference room, arena) regardless of whether or not the items include the prospective student-athlete’s name or picture.

(Adopted: 8/5/04; Revised: 5/14/05)

What about pseudo pre-game speeches? I do remember reading about that happening. Would that be a violation?

That's the only thing I can think of that may fall into the category of "game-day simulations."

Sound like bs to me, but who knows. I find it highly unlikely, these coaches would risk something like this getting out. With our coaches being known as such good recruiters I'm sure they would have enough sense not to do something to risk their reputations.

I wonder if other coaches in the conference would send their recruits here to find violations and report them?

I just don't think there were any "personalized" items and in the rule it says run out on the field "with the team" and plus the scoreboard is getting a makeover so I doubt there was anything on the jumbotron.

Funny how the allegations match so closely to the rule....

I thought the same thing when I read about the Washington violation. After actually reading the rule, you can see that running onto the field would only be a violation if it was with the team during a game. I believe I read that Washington's violation was because they had a personalized message on the scoreboard.

i'm curious, what constitutes a major violation as opposed to a minor one? i'm no expert, but these types of violations don't seem to be major, to me. giving a kid a car is what i think of when someone mentiones a major violation.

It would be considered a secondary violation and no eligibility would be endangered such as suggested in the OP.

You People completely fringing latch on to the negative way of life. Here is the bottom line either you trust CLK and staff to do what is right or you buy into the rumor mill jealous media fanbase and react to every little thing. 100 to 1 that there has been no violations or anything even close to it. This staff is getting alot of publicity and attention to do something this stupid.

Lane knows the rules. There is no way he'd violate every specific detail of one rule. It is pretty laughable. I do like that he is scaring people enough with his recruiting prowess to have people wanting this to happen though.

A recruit told VQ that Kiffin gave the recruits a pregame peptalk and then they ran onto the field. He also mentioned a simulated press conference w/ actual cameras and questions. Surely Kiff would know if this was against the rules. I'm not sold on this.

What are you getting at? Looks like nobody believes it's true.

This is BS!! Like Kiffin is going to come into a big time college school and within 2 months of being hired get major violations against them....Talk about never getting another big time coaching job ever...he and Tennessee are not that stupid...remember we are not Bama!!

None of that seems to be a violation at least not of the rule that was posted early in this thread.
