Rumor: TN with recruiting violations

From Pearlie Graves:

But his favorite part was his time inside Neyland Stadium and a unique setting inside the Tennessee locker room.

"They gave us a little preview of everything," Graves said. "Some of the players and us got in the locker room and they acted like it was game time. The intensity was high and it showed what it will be like when it's game time at Tennessee. Coach Kiffin gave us a motivational speech and then we ran out on the field. That was my favorite part.

I believe that CLK ran with them out to the field. I doubt the band was in the T formation the jumbo tron was playing and all that jazz. You have to realize reporters are souless tool bags. they will take anything and make it bad. "Yesterday Coach K called and asked me to come check out UT" says a recruit. next day reporters turn that into " Coack K called said he has a plane flying me up there and will have a lambo bought for me and will have a few stacks of money in the front seat. Then he said I can hang with his wife all day while he buys my parents a new house and new cars." This is what low life reporters do. Take nothing and make shock stories out of them.

This is originally from Scout but if you search the post content, you'll see that it's spread across several boards. I don't know where this is coming from. A couple of recruits mentioned running out of the tunnel and a simulated press conference, but that isn't against any NCAA rules that I'm aware of. I haven't heard ANYTHING about recruits names on the backs on jerseys that's likely BS - everyone knows you can't do that. Anyway here's the post and tell me what you think or what you're hearing. Again likely BS but worth noting that this is what people are saying about us (chicken-s*** fans)

complete bs if this poster had any credibility he lost it when he stated it was a major violation. washington did it, was told dont do it anymore end of story. NCAA said it was a minor violation.

If it is a violation, it is not a MAJOR VIOLATION. He might get a letter from the NCAA rules committee, but that is about it.

Boosters paying players $44,000 is a MAJOR VIOLATION.

Boosters giving a kids under-qualified parents a job that doubles their previous salary, is a MAJOR VIOLATION.

Boosters paying highschool coaches to stear prospects to their university is a MAJOR VIOLATION.

Letting a kid run through a tunnel, GIVE ME A BREAKE!

I just don't think there were any "personalized" items and in the rule it says run out on the field "with the team" and plus the scoreboard is getting a makeover so I doubt there was anything on the jumbotron.

FWIW the jumbotron was on showing video all day and night last saturday. I saw it before the basketball game and figured it had to do with the recruits in town. it was still on around three in the morning when I was heading in for the night, which seemed odd. It seemed to just be a tennessee football highlight reel.

So, I guess I don't see the problem? Unless the JT had a personalized message, and they were given jerseys with their names on it where is the violation? Giving a pep-talk and running onto the field with the jumbotron going do not appear to be an issue.

Hey, our coach scored 39 out of 40 on the test. He knows the rules. Too bad some other schools like to divert attention away from what they are doing.

They'll have to come up with better rumors than that to cause problems. Sounds like someone is worried.

Can we please put this to rest now? Based on the NCAA Rule below, EVEN IF WE DID SUCH ACTIVITIES, this is not a "Major" violation NOR any cause for concern..

13.6.7.9 Activities.

An institution may not arrange miscellaneous, personalized recruiting aids (e.g., personalized jerseys, personalized audio/video scoreboard presentations) and may not permit a prospective student-athlete to engage in any game-day simulations (e.g., running onto the field with the team during pre-game introductions) during an official visit. Personalized recruiting aids include any decorative items and special additions to any location the prospective student-athlete will visit (e.g., hotel room, locker room, coach's office, conference room, arena) regardless of whether or not the items include the prospective student-athlete's name or picture.
