Rumors James Pearce has character issues?

Lots of rumors and speculation that he was not a consistent presence on TOS. The mods alluded to his attendance and participation as lacking professionalism, specifically citing being on time to team events and such. I assume they meant practice, but they were intentionally vague when commenting.

He is lacking in communication skills. "You feel me" won't go well in the NFL Team interviews.

Meh, I’ve had a few interactions with him. Guy went out of his way to sign for kids after games. Hell even offered to sign my jersey without me asking. Not saying that classifies his character or anything but he definitely didn’t seem like a selfish, self absorbed player or anything. Quite the opposite in fact.

I can’t imagine how often that type of thing happens in an interview. Hopefully JP has enlisted the help of some professional advisors to guide him through this process.
Maybe he can turn on a different look; but whenever I've seen him speak, that's it. And I'd say the late for meetings is a concern too. That said, for Him; My every best wish.

It’s always comical how stuff like that comes out right before the draft. I know some pro teams will want to tarnish players rep so they can scoop them up for a bargain. I suspect that is the case and was surprised Hubbs said anything, even if it was vague. However, I don’t think he would say anything at all without some evidence.

After games I would usually watch Heupel and the player's press conferences. One thing I noticed this year is that Pearce, despite being one of the most well-known players on the team and having an impact on a bunch of games, was never one of the players they made available.

I just pulled up the Vol Club interview he did with Austin Price last year and I think I know why.

This is BS. Dudes going to rush the passer (which he's incredible at) not join the debate team. Jalen Carter assisted in the death of a teammate then drove away. Pearce is fine and this is a hit piece.

Even if there's a slight problem he never caused an issue at UT and was a phenomenal player. I hate this crap.

We really can't know if this is some kind of "fake leak" for draft purposes or if someone from inside Anderson dished unfavorable "off the record" info about Pearce as a team player that got on the record somehow.

I'm sure coaches get calls from the NFL about guys that have draft potential and in order to be taken seriously in the future they probably "talk turkey" and speak very frankly about some players and say things they'd never say publicly about them.

I'm also sure teams try to manipulate the draft board with trash talk about players to get them to fall a position or two and it may not even be about Pearce but about getting someone else to move up a position or two who grades out close to Pearce.

I want to believe the latter, and since no one here can possibly know which is the truth, I will believe it's part of trying to jostle the draft board.

Exactly. Kind of embarrassing.

Was that the interview he wore headphones the whole time?

Yeah. There's nothing indicative of "bad character" in it, but he just had nothing interesting to say and wasn't all that engaging. Said "I feel like" or "you feel me?" every other word.

The oddest moment was when AP asked him what member of the D-line was poised for a breakout season. He sits there for a second, then asks AP who he thinks is going to break out, then beats around the bush, before finally saying Jayson Jenkins and Tyre West. That was a softball question that was asked to make him look good and brag on teammates, but he answered it in such a weird way.
