Rumors James Pearce has character issues?

Bad enough to drop out of the first round? https://atozsports.com/nashville/vo...s-pearce-nfl-draft-boards-character-concerns/

I for one have never heard anything bad said about the kid, period. He had the one traffic stop but nothing else. No twitter fingers, no demands for money or threats of portalling. It just feels like a hatchet job by some reporter citing unnamed sources with no substantiating facts. Then again that seems to be a winning combo these days.
******** he was fantastic

I believe his performance in the 40 as well as his overall athleticism displayed at the combine killed the slur trying to drive his draft stock down. If he has character issues make them known or stfu.

I hope he goes high he’s an amazing talent and VFL. I personally love having him on the team. I do know that I have heard a few people who’ve talked to him and say he’s come off as rude or demanding before but I’ve never heard anything that’s a glaring red flag so this is slightly puzzling.

Yup, he's a 1st round lock now. It wouldn't shock me if he sneaks into the Top 10. New Orleans could take him at 9th.

I’m not around the program like I was in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. However, I still have some contacts. I have never heard anyone say that Pearce has character issues. I’ve heard about characters issues over the years about several other guys but never about Pearce. TIFWIW

Apparently it’s still a thing. I also find it strange that it wasn’t more obvious. I guess kudos to the staff for keeping it “in house.”

The only obvious thing that could possibly be related to this is that he was basically never made available to the media. He was one of the best players on our defense, tabbed as an early first rounder before the season started, made multiple big plays, etc., veteran, yet I don't recall him speaking to the media in a press conference a single time. He did do that interview with AP, where I think he acted kind of odd and wore a pair of headphones the entire time.

It's still kinda crazy. Not only the fact that it was put out there, but that there has been no confirmation or real pushback on it. His interviews during this process make me think he may suffer from Barry Bonds Syndrome. Kinda like Jaylen Brown of the Celtics. He hasn't 'done' anything, media just does not like him, and he does not seem to like them very much? The line between self-confidence and aloofness is very thin and when you are that good, folks wanna tear you down. He does not seem to antagonize actively but does not do anything off the field to ingratiate himself? In his media stuff during the combine, he comes off a bit snarky and exasperated answering questions. But that's really digging.. if the rumors didn't exist it probably wouldn't stand out.

He's a cocky unapologetic jock. Not a smart arse just not a teddy bear?

I've chosen to believe that someone is trying to push James Pearce down in the draft to either get him or get someone else to potentially be available.

That said, listen to this video, starting about 5:45 where Coach Rodney Garner talks about Pearce and his performance in the past season.

the environment and the people around him at Tennessee are the main issues, just not sure what to make of that statement

oh I hate the rumor mill

Well, according to the article, it seems he must have character issues, since he didn't use NIL to try to move to OSU or Alabama. I mean, after all, a premier player that doesn't want to go to one of those schools must have some defect. I'd take a little pay cut to not have to live in a west Alabama sh1thole.
Amazing rant ,my friend. Any chithousery of bama is good

Was on an Arizona Cardinals Twitter thread and people saying JPJ wasn’t liked by coaches and teammates and was late to meetings…I think James should be a top 10 pick. It’s unfortunate that this has come out now during draft season as players get picked apart.

This obviously seems like teams with lower draft picks spreading this so that he falls to them. None of this makes sense.

Didnt have the best people around him at Tennessee? They’re talking about Coach Garner like that?

Gave himself a snap count? If that was true why did we see him go down in a few games, go off the field, then come back on after a few plays? These people must not know Garner rotates players so much intentionally.

If he falls the Chiefs or Eagles will pick him up before round two for sure smh.

People have lumped James into the same category as Walter Nolan and Mike Green when it comes to character issues. There’s a lot of smoke right now but it’s annoying that it’s happening and nothing substantiated has been confirmed about JPJ.

Someone said he didn’t care about football because he wore a hoodie for his workout instead of the combine attire lol. Kid should be a top 10 pick imo

The back handed swipe at the entire UT football program in total IF Pearce has character issues at all is noticed here. The writer had the door opened about Pearce the player and decided the whole program was the root of the problem. This your typical camel’s nose under the tent starting with Pearce and soon devolved into the whole program is the problem displaying you now live in a tent with the whole camel. Vug the originat of this concept imo.

I'm writing off every single "analyst" that puts out a mock draft where he isn't a 1st round pick.

"Massive personal issues" with 0 proof yet somehow Heupel & Co. kept it completely under wraps. I hope they find out which POS/front office is trying to get him to fall and act accordingly.

Mel Kiper had JPJ going 28 to Detroit. In his write up, he said he “only had 7.5 sacks” even though he was top 2 in pressure rate. I feel like if James had 10 sacks like he had his sophomore year, he’d be surefire top 10 pick. What’s crazy is had he left last year, he’d have been the top rated edge.

Mike Tomlin and the Steelers kept Antonio Brown under wraps. Urban Meyer kept Aaron Hernandez under wraps. How long was it before we all found out about Chris Lofton's cancer diagnosis? This list goes on and on. There are people here that still think it was just a mooning. So why are you shocked when new information comes out you didn't know? Why do you think it's all some big conspiracy theory?

Pearce isn't a bad kid. It's his football character and maturity that are being questioned. He was a pretty big malcontent and diva this year; walking off and out of practice multiple times this past season. Honestly it is a pretty big kudos to the coaching staff and leadership they kept him as engaged and productive as they did. When these NFL scouts and coaches call Heupel and Co, they aren't going to lie for a kid. All that does is hurt future prospects here. But there isn't any benefit to them airing all the dirty laundry to the local media, so you keep it in house and keep it rolling.

In the grand scheme of things, him running the 40 at the combine in his hoodie isn't a big deal at all. However, him running in the hoodie because he left the workout shirt in his hotel when scouts already have concerns about your ability to be a professional isn't a good look. One scout was quoted "I'm not surprised he ran the fastest time, and I'm also not surprised he forgot his shirt." It's just one more box he didn't check and when you are about to invest a high draft pick and a lot of money into a kid everything matters. Especially when this is considered a very deep draft class along the defensive line. He needs to go to a good situation and culture with some great vets or I am afraid he will just flame out.

I hope he does fall to the Eagles, Steelers, Ravens, Eagles, or Lions for his own sake and for the sake of his career.
